Back in 2006, An Inconvenient Truth captivated and educated the world on the effects of climate change and made it into the heart of popular culture. One of the better science documentaries in its own right, the film was also a daring call to political action: it exposes the shocking (and scary) reality of how humankind has aided in the destruction of the planet, and if no action was to be taken, the effects would be cataclysmic.

It was a film that undoubtedly left audiences shaken, involved and inspired. Now, 11 years later, Al Gore, who has been an advocate on Earth’s behalf for the past twenty-five years, will bring to theaters a rousing sequel entitled, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power. The film follows former vice president Gore behind the scenes – both private and public – as he travels around the world influencing international climate policy and training an “army” of climate champions for his very important cause.

When President Trump announced on June 1, 2017 that the U.S. would withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord, Gore blasted him for normalizing climate change denial. Across multiple news outlets and social media, Trump has been vocal on his views about climate change — calling it a hoax and dismissing any claims of the destruction it has and can cause.

In his interview with People Magazine, Gore shared his concern and frustration against Trump’s lack of action towards climate change. “What the scientists told us 20 years ago has come true,” explained Gore. “What they are telling us now will happen in the future if we don’t stop using the atmosphere as an open sewer. We are in a race against time.”

Although Gore argues that some of the biggest inhibitors come from special interests and the Trump administration, he still is hopeful and optimistic the film will shed additional light on the perils of climate change and in turn, bring about the change and solutions we so desperately need.

An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power hits theaters on Friday, July 28, 2017. Reserve your seats to the limited engagement screenings here.
