1. Zendaya’s Message to America’s Youth
Always the positive role model, Zendaya won the Choice Summer Movie Actress award and used it as an opportunity to address America’s youth in the wake of Saturday’s white nationalist terror attack on a group of counter-protesters. “Right now I want to talk to all of the young people in the audience. With all of the injustice and the hatred that is happening not only in the world, but our country, I need you to be educated. I need you to listen. I need you to pay attention,” implored the Spider-Man: Homecoming star. “You are the future leaders of the world. You are the future presidents, the future senators. You guys are the ones that are going to make this world better. You are the future. So take that very, very seriously alright?”
2. Louis Tomlinson and Bebe Rexha Perform “Back to You”
One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson returned to the TCAs for the first time since 2013 to perform his new song “Back to You” with collaborator Bebe Rexha. A certified hit, “Back to You” dropped on July 21 and already has over 50 million Spotify plays, making Tomlinson the latest 1D star to notch a solo hit.
3. French Montana and Swae Lee Perform “Unforgettable”
The crowd was on its feet when French Montana and Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee took the stage to perform “Unforgettable” at the TCAs. The track is Montana’s first #1 single on the the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart and giving Justin Bieber a serious run for “Song of the Summer.”
4. Rita Ora Sings “Your Song”
Rita Ora rocked the mic as confetti showered the audience during the performance of her new hit single “Your Song.” The dance track has climbed charts steadily since it dropped on May 26, reaching #6 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart. Bonus tidbit: the track was co-written by Ed Sheeran.
5. Miley’s Moment That Wasn’t
Fans were fired-up when Miley Cyrus bailed at the very last minute. “To my dearest fans & all of those watching @teenchoicefox! I want to say thank you from the very bottom of my heart for presenting me with #TheUltimateChoiceAward,” Tweeted the pop star. “I had every intention of being there to accept and celebrate this honor! I created an unrealistic schedule for myself which leads me to this announcement, My new single / music video #YoungerNow will be dropping this Friday, Aug 18th.” So no Miley at the show, but expect new music from Cyrus soon.
