When it comes to smartwatches, you might not immediately think of a brand like Fossil. Instead, you’re probably thinking of Apple or Samsung or even Fitbit. Though Fossil has only been around for a little over 30 years compared to more prominent Swiss watchmakers, like Rolex, the American company has been dabbling in smartwatches since the early 2000s.

Unlike others in the smartwatch space, Fossil seems to have found a happy middle ground to satiate even the most die-hard horology buffs alongside those looking for bleeding edge technology. A perfect example is the Q Grant, a Gen 1 chronograph smartwatch. It packs all the tech wizardry you’d expect without looking like one of those vintage calculator watches — or a rubbery workout version you’d rather not have to wear.

On the outside, the Q Grant exhibits normal watch behavior in the form of a 44mm case, chronograph functionality (e.g., timer, etc.), a handsome dark brown leather strap, Roman numeral indicators and even a 24 hour sub-dial. Underneath the proverbial hood, you’ll find an Intel processor, an activity tracker, wireless syncing and charging capabilities and smartphone-like notifications. The latter of which can be customized to your liking with a variety of different colored LED notifications for different types of messages, or even a gentle buzz to let you know there’s something waiting for you.

What’s more, you can even swap the 22mm strap for something more colorful or even a different material depending on your mood. And unlike other smartwatches, the Q Grant has an expected battery life up to seven full days before you need to wirelessly recharge. Best of all, it works with both Android and iPhone smartphones. Oh, and did we mention that it doesn’t look like a calculator watch?
