* Italian footwear/apparel brand poised for comeback
* New collaboration with Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy
* Rubchinskiy previously collaborated with Reebook on successful collection
Every few years, we see the return of an old school brand that’s taken a big leap of faith in the hopes of a big comeback. Right now, we’re really feeling Fila.
Once a staple on soccer fields and nightclubs, Fila’s fortunes took a tumble in the aughts, after the Italian brand was sold to Korean investors. Rather than focusing on core products and cool collaborations, the company tried to appeal to the mass market, and ended up losing its once-loyal fanbase and following.
But fear Fila no more, because the brand is officially back. This season, Fila has teamed up with buzzy Russian designer, Gosha Rubchinskiy, on a capsule collection of T-shirts and sneakers. Rubchinskiy, who helped turned fortunes around at Reebook with a similar collaboration a few seasons ago, is a fashion wunderkind, with a gritty aesthetic inspired by his childhood in Moscow.
For the Fila x Gosha Rubchinskiy collaboration, Rubchinskiy completely re-interprets the classic Fila sneaker, elevating it (literally) to a mid-top silhouette with a chunkier sole and padded collar. The buffed leather sneakers are accented by red suede trim and a treaded rubber sole in tan. The designer’s signature Russian logo hits at the top of the heel, while the classic Fila logo is stitched on the side and on the black rubber midsole.
For old-school sneaker heads and new fans of fashion alike, this Fila x Gosha Rubchinskiy collaboration proves the brand is back and ready to play. These shoes are being released in limited quantities so don’t overthink it and grab yourself a pair today.
