* Away Travel’s simple approach to luggage makes traveling hassle-free
* Features include a built-in USB port for charging devices
* Available in four different sizes

Last week, we told you about Jay-Z’s new favorite luggage brand, Away Travel. The music mogul’s recent investment in the year-old luggage line comes as no surprise to us, considering that each suitcase is materialized with the ideal balance of functional features and a sleek, ergonomic design. In addition to being lightweight and supremely durable, every suitcase also comes with some fun bonuses, including a built-in USB charging port and waterproof laundry bag.

Available in four different sizes (and a variety of colors), we tested Away Travel’s smallest size, The Carry-On, and found that it had more than enough room for a weekend’s worth of clothing, shoes and accessories. Here’s why we liked it:

1. SCRATCH-FREE MATTE EXTERIOR

Away Travel Carry-On Away’s carry-on suitcases feature a super durable hard shell exterior that promises to withstand TSA handling and in-flight turbulence. The sleek design and textured matte finish are scratch resistant and easy to clean.

2. SEPARATE COMPARTMENTS TO MAXIMIZE STORAGE SPACE

BUY: GAP Logo Sweatshirt, $49.95 | J.Crew Factory Wool Sweater, $49.50

The suitcase folds out to reveal sides with even storage space. Use the right compartment for clothing. Heavier items and bulkier pieces such as sweaters, hoodies and outerwear should go on the bottom. Next, set out your lighter items, like T-shirts and polos. Place a pair of jeans on top to hold everything down. That comes in handy because…

3. COMPRESSION PAD ALLOWS FOR EVEN MORE ROOM

Away Luggage Carry-On

Away Travel’s luggage features a ventilated compression pad that allows you to create two even layers of storage, stacked neatly on top of one another. Simply fold down the compression pad, tighten the buckles on the sides and prepare for layer two.

BUY: Abercrombie & Fitch Skinny Jeans in Destroyed Medium Wash, $68.00

Think of it a little like those vacuum bags you saw on TV, where the air is pushed out of the clothes, to free up more space. The compression pad also keeps your items separate, in case say, you want to keep your jeans away from your just-washed shirts and underwear.

4. ZIPPERED COMPARTMENT FOR SHOES AND HARD GOODS

BUY: Vintage U.S. Army Camo Jacket (eBay), $27.99+

The second compartment (on the left) features a mesh zipper pocket, designed to store your shoes, toiletries and other hard goods that you don’t want rolling around. The zipped lining keeps them protected and separate from the clothing.

Packing tip: laying shoes flat to fit the shape will allow for more room and prevent them from acquiring any scuffs and scratches during flight.

5. BUILT-IN USB PORT AND OTHER HELPFUL EXTRAS

Each suitcase comes with helpful extras to keep traveling simple and hassle free. In the upper right interior pocket, you will a find a nylon laundry bag for dirty clothing, a USB cable, mini notebook and TSA-approved key for added protection and security to your belongings. One of our favorite features of this suitcase is the tech details that it offers. Under the handle you’ll find a USB port, so that you can charge your devices on the go, and always have your phone close by while waiting to board your flight.
