Pizza is one of those foods that even when it’s bad, it is still good. It can be enjoyed warm, straight out of the oven, or cold the next morning for breakfast.
Our favorite way to make pizza is at home. While it might take a bit more time and effort, the finished product is usually worth it. When making homemade pizza in your kitchen, you only need a few key cooking essentials to get you going. One crucial essential to the perfect pizza is some kind of baking sheet. This year, swap your aluminum foil-type sheets for the Baking Steel.
The Steel is a piece of low-carbon steel that promises to yield the perfect pizza crust. As steel is a more conductive cooking surface than the usual brick oven’s stone (or aluminum pans), it can cook faster and more evenly at a lower temperature, resulting in a perfect, thin, crispy crust. At 14″ x 16,” it can bake up roughly the same size as a large pizza.
The Baking Steel is virtually indestructible and multi-purpose. It is pre-seasoned with a proprietary oil, flat and easy to store, works on home ovens or grills and also makes a great stovetop griddle, induction plate or cold plate after it is frozen. The Steel arrives as a new and bright silver color, but develops its darker patina the more you grease and use it.
An optional carrying case is made from recycled billboards (no two carrying cases are alike) and allows for portability say, if you’re bringing the baking steel to a BBQ or campsite.
What started out as a modest Kickstarter project, has turned into a full-fledged production house for Baking Steels. Their motto is “create the crust you crave,” and with this simple piece of flat metal, you might just get that and more.
