In 2009, McGuire Denim founder Merritt Charles entered the New York fashion industry by introducing a line dedicated to creating elevated daily wardrobe staples, with an emphasis on quality construction, luxe materials and fabrication, and wearable designs, to fill a gap in the 9-to-5 wardrobe attire.

Now located in Downtown Los Angeles, the contemporary label is committed to creating clothing staples that balance the styles of both the East and West Coasts, taking influence from vintage styles and reinventing them for the contemporary market. Creative director Mariana McDonald (former designer at Joe’s Jeans and Gap, respectively) told Vogue.com that her designs reflect her bi-coastal background, incorporating the sophistication of New York style with LA’s laid-back “rock n’ roll vibe.” McDonald says the label aims to offer pieces that, “have something that speaks to both the East and West Coasts, because I have spent my adult life on both.”

McGuire’s contemporary line not only offers denim, but also a wide variety of other clothing staples, including jumpsuits, dresses and jackets. Fans of the label include Jennifer Lopez, Kourtney Kardashian, Ashley Olsen and Victoria’s Secret model, Alessandra Ambrosio.

McGuire Army Jacket

One of our favorite items from McGuire is the versatile Army Jacket. This utility jacket embodies McGuire’s taste for vintage silhouettes updated with superb attention to detail and authentic accents, always made with the modern woman in mind. While this may come as a surprise, an army-green utility jacket is one of the most versatile clothing pieces that you can own. This jacket’s lightweight fabrication makes it wearable for warmer weather or layered with other items for fall. The silhouette is balanced; over-sized but not boxy. McGuire’s modern version of the classic army jacket will add a chic, off-duty sensibility to even the stuffiest of ensembles.
