* “Celebrity Edge” ship features floating “Magic Carpet” platform
* Two-story jogging track loops around pool
* Suites feature exclusive lounge, pool and restaurants

Think you’ve seen it all on a cruise ship? Think again. Celebrity Cruises has unveiled details about its new ship, “Celebrity Edge,” and it’s positively mind-boggling.

Set to embark in late 2018, the Celebrity Edge will sail from Port Everglades to the Caribbean, and features room for 2900 passengers. Its piece de resistance is its 90-ton moving platform, dubbed the “Magic Carpet” (photo above).

Roughly the size of a tennis court, the platform will be able to move and adjust to four different heights. Guests will use the “Magic Carpet” to board each day, and the platform will then transform into an outdoor dining deck by night.

The Edge will also have the first-ever two-story jogging track at sea. The track loops around the pool and provides guests with a chance to work off that cruise weight while enjoying the ocean breeze.

Other highlights include the introduction of two, “Iconic Suites” (photo above) with about 2500 square feet of living space and 700-square-foot balconies. There will also be 146, entry-level “Sky Suites.” The suite quarters will offer the ultimate in luxury, with a private sundeck, private pool, exclusive lounge and exclusive restaurants.

For everyone else, Celebrity Cruises promises rooms that are 23% larger than previous ships, with glass panels on balconies that open at the flick of a switch, letting you wake up to the sunrise every morning. The bedding and mattresses are also handcrafted in Italy, for a refined and comfortable night’s rest.

True to its name, Celebrity Cruises brought designer Nate Berkus on board as the Design Ambassador for their newest class of ships. Berkus, who got his start on the Oprah Winfrey Show, is also known for his successful home goods and accessories line for Target.

The Celebrity Edge is the first new ship from Celebrity Cruises in five years. The ship is set to depart in winter 2018, on Caribbean itineraries that include smaller ports such as the British Virgin Islands, a first for the cruise line.
