* Union is new face of the brand’s 7th Avenue Design Studio
* Collection inspired by Union’s character on Being Mary Jane
* Union’s own collection with New York & Co. out in August
New York & Company’s 7th Avenue Design Studio is collaborating with actress Gabrielle Union on a new clothing collection, set to hit stores this August. It’s a natural step, as Union is the current face of New York & Co., joining Eva Mendes as a celebrity ambassador and collaborator. The brand also notes that its 7th Avenue Design Studio collection was largely inspired by Mary Jane Paul, Union’s character on BET’s hit series, Being Mary Jane.
Mary Jane Paul, a successful cable newscaster, requires clothes that are effortless, polished and trendy. Those are key attributes that guide the current collection, and in line with what fans can expect from Union’s namesake collaboration with 7th Avenue Design Studio this summer.
“I want to bring a Gabrielle spin to New York & Company by adding a unique element of style to the office — chic jumpsuits in the boardroom, dramatic coats over suiting,” Union tells Essence.
It’s a “whole new game,” says the actress. “I am excited to work with a brand that’s known for embracing diversity and that caters specifically to women — especially women who want to look on-point without breaking the bank. I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve been working on!”
In addition to her work on Being Mary Jane and 7th Avenue Design Studio, Union will star alongside Alec Baldwin, Taylor Schilling, Jena Malone, Emilio Estevez and Che “Rhymefest” Smith in the upcoming film, The Public, an ensemble dramedy written and directed by Estevez.
