* Spotify could be getting into the hardware business
* Job posting spotted looking for Senior Product Manager for Hardware
* Physical product could set Spotify apart in competitive industry

Spotify may be launching a physical product in an effort to gain an edge over its competitors in the music streaming industry. A new report says Spotify is dipping its toes into developing hardware.

The rumors started running rampant after a blogger spotted a job listing for a senior product manager for hardware. The posting, which was spotted on the official Spotify website, has since been taken down.

There’s no word on what kind of product Spotify is hoping to launch, though it’s safe to assume it will be consumer-facing and interact with the company’s music player. The job listing said only that the device will be internet connected and be a “category defining product… that will affect the way the world experiences music and talk content.”

Last year, Snapchat famously launched its Snap Spectacles, allowing users to record video for their Snapchat feed, directly from their glasses. Spotify could be following a similar model.

Some analysts think Spotify is planning voice-activated headphones that will store and play Spotify playlists. There are also thoughts that Spotify may be launching an activity tracker or other fitness wearable that can sync up with the music you’re listening to.
