These are our favorite movies that take place on trains. Perhaps they’ll serve as inspiration for you to book your next trip via rail. 1. The Hunger Games
With the actual Hunger Games on most people’s minds, you forget that the tribute’s sole means of travel to the Capitol is by train, which travel at around 250 mph and are lavishly decked out.

Boy meets girl on train. Boy asks girl to get off train and walk around a lovely European city for the night to get to know one another.
3. Murder on the Orient Express
Before last year’s Kenneth Branagh’s adaption of Agatha Christie’s murder mystery novel was the 1974 original starring Albert Finney as the world-renowned detective Hercule Poirot.
4. The Darjeeling Limited
Wes Anderson’s 2007 dramedy stars Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman. The story takes place on a train with the same name as the title of the movie, where the three aforementioned stars play brothers who have reconnected a year after last seeing each other at their father’s funeral.
5. Some Like it Hot
Billy Wilder’s 1959 romcom stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon in drag, alongside the vivacious Marilyn Monroe. There’s a reason why it’s regarded as one of the best movies of all time and if you haven’t seen it by now, let this be the first one you stream from this list.
6. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Loosely based on actual events, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid tells the story of two outlaws on the run for robbing a handful of trains.
7. Strangers on a Train
Alfred Hitchcock puts his spin on Patricia Highsmith’s 1950 novel of the same name, where two strangers meet on a train and decide to “trade” murders.
Snowpiercer is set in a post-apocalyptic world circa 2031 where an attempt to curb global warming through climate engineering has gone horribly wrong and forced all survivors of a new ice age onto a train that never stops. Oh, and the train is divided by class. What could go wrong?
