* Keep the wind and rain out with a windbreaker
* Windbreakers make great layering pieces, even during the winter
* Styles for both men and women
Unfortunately, the backstory to the lightweight alternative layer known as a windbreaker – the modern version, anyway – is pretty, shall we say, boring? Despite the ho-hum origin story to what the Brits call a windcheater, windbreakers – not anoraks – are a required item of clothing. In the winter, they’re great for layering. In the spring, they keep the wind at bay, the rain out and if it’s a touch warm outside, they won’t make you sweat.
Here are a mix of men’s and women’s windbreakers in a variety of colors and styles for everyone.
1. Trailside Supply Co. Water-Resistant Nylon Windbreaker
A hood is generally a key component of the modern windbreaker, but Amazon’s Trailside Supply brand kicked that tradition to the curb and instead, updated the style with a mix of colorways and a modern design.[caption id="attachment_104594" align="aligncenter" width="255"] Image courtesy of Amazon[/caption]
2. Charles River Pack-N-Go Pullover
This pull over style features elasticized cuffs and the hood is equipped with adjustable shockcords for a better fit. Best of all, you can pack the entire thing into its front pocket, making it great for travel and outdoor hiking.[caption id="attachment_104596" align="aligncenter" width="231"] Image courtesy of Amazon[/caption]
3. Esprit Gym Jacket
This little number from Esprit takes its design cues from hood-less windbreakers and adds a bit of athleisure aesthetic for a great looking layering piece.
4. Columbia Sportswear Flashback
If looks are somewhere in the middle of your list of criteria when it comes to picking the right windbreaker, Columbia’s Flashback is a great technical layering option that comes in a mix of outdoors-y colors.
5. Vansop Pullover
This quarter-zip pullover is a fashionable option that manages to retain its wind and water repellent properties.
6. Under Armour Run True
If you don’t mind a bit of blue, the Run True from Under Armour seems like a great option for runners or those in need of a style that’s designed with a hood.
7. L.L. Bean Casco Bay
Available in black, red and navy, L.L. Bean’s Casco Bay is a steal at this price. It’s built for the outdoors and styled for the city, making it an ideal windbreaker option for anyone.
8. Pull&Bear Lightweight Hooded Jacket
If your wardrobe favors eathy tones and neutrals to vivid colors and flashy prints, this versatile windbreaker is the one for you.
9. Hurley Protect Solid
This solid windbreaker has been finished with DWR to block out the rain and protect you from harsh weather. The wind doesn’t stand a chance of getting through its breathable yet protective fabric, and the adjustable hood offers great coverage.
