* Balenciaga Speed Knits aren’t the only “ones that look like socks”
* Find affordable sock sneakers from brands like Adidas and Steve Madden
* Futuristic cool for men and women
Balenciaga’s Speed Knit sneaker has become a trend-setting bestseller, and not just because they look cool. Cardi B gave the kicks a shoutout in her song “I Like It” (“I like those Balenciagas, the ones that look like socks”), which made the already popular sneaker a modern classic. Needless to say, if you can afford the Speed Knits, we highly recommend picking up a pair.
Although we would all love a pair of Balenciaga Speed Knits (Balenciaga anything for that matter), they’re definitely a pricey shoe that most of us can’t afford. But if they’re not in your budget, don’t abandon hope of nailing that futuristic sock sneaker look. We found a handful of alternatives to the Balenciaga Speed Knit that offer the same ultra-modern look for a fraction of the price. Check them out below.
1. BP. Trak Sock Sneaker
These BP. kicks offer a slightly different take on the sock sneaker with ribbed fabric and a grey color. They’re ideal for casual weekends, because they go with most outfits but make a low-key statement anywhere.
2. Steve Madden Flex Hi-Top Sneaker
Steve Madden somehow upped the minimalist look even more with these Flex sneakers, and we think they look great. Plus, they’re very reasonably priced under $100.
3. Jeffrey Campbell Sock Sneaker
Small details like a bisecting seam down the middle, a notch on the heel, and a high quality textile upper make these Jeffrey Campbell sock sneakers stand out. They’re made of a slightly more sturdy material, which is great for sporting in the colder months.
4. MICHAEL Michael Kors Skyler Bootie
If you’re looking for a more dressed-up sock sneaker, go for these Michael Kors Skyler booties. They upgrade the sock sneaker with a wedge heel and a chrome accent that gives the shoe a sophisticated, modern look you don’t see very often.
5. ASOS Sock Sneakers
These sock sneakers from ASOS feature the same sock-like fit, chunky sole, and futuristic cool that make the Speed Knits a classic. The only difference? These cost $51.
6. Adidas ADV 1 Sock Primeknit Sneaker
Adidas puts their own spin on the sock sneaker with these ADV 1s, and we’re big fans. Design notes including a ribbed Primeknit upper, a leather heel spoiler, and a unique sole that combine for a statement-making shoe that’s still highly wearable.
