* Dr. Martens is introducing new kicks
* Modern, wearable designs that still have attitude
* Great winter shoes that work year-round
Some fashion experts insist that great style simply means not giving a f*ck. One brand that defines this rebellious approach is Dr. Martens.
Although Dr. Martens’ boots were cemented as a style statement during the grunge movement of the 90s, they were invented during WWII by Klaus Märtens, a doctor in the German army. From there, they were adopted by skinheads in the 60s and punk rockers in the 70s and 80s, giving the shoes a hardcore, controversial personality. Now, they’re worn by all kinds of people as a rebellious style statement — and a great winter boot. Check out the classic Dr. Martens combat boot below.
Sadly, most of us can’t pull off the original Dr. Martens boot (especially in 2018). But Dr. Martens seems to have figured this out because they’ve been expanding their offerings lately with modern, more wearable shoes that still provide a little bit of attitude. Below are some of our favorites from the new Dr. Martens.
1. Dr. Martens Toomey
Black slip-ons are a dime a dozen in most places, but these Dr. Martens Toomeys provide a unique take on the skate style shoe. They feature a black canvas upper, accented by a yellow-striped sole and a signature heel tab.
2. Dr. Martens Bonny II
At first glance, these Bonny II boots look like something out of Kanye West’s closet. They showcase a modern military boot look, but tone it down just enough for everyday wear.
3. Dr. Martens Dante Venice
White sneakers are a simple wardrobe essential, but small tweaks can make a big difference. We like these because they’re a little bit chunky, but still have a clean, wearable style.
4. Dr. Martens Adrian Smooth
Loafers are cool, but let’s be honest: they can get stuffy. These Adrians introduce some signature Dr. Martens rebelliousness that gives the dress shoe exactly what it needs.
5. Dr. Martens 1461 Moonfabric
Unique office-ready kicks are hard to come by, which is why these Moonfabric shoes are worth checking out. They feature a grey and brown herringbone fabric upper that gives them an interesting but still low-key style.
6. Dr. Martens Archie
Another dressy staple that Dr. Martens has upgraded with some grunge style is the oxford. These Archies have a versatile preppy look your can keep clean for special occasions, or beat up for a completely different style.
