* New Heat Tech Leggings are slim yet warm
* Microfiber traps heat while staying dry
* Stretchy denim for comfort and flexibility

In many parts of the world, winter can be three months of wearing shapeless bundles, where people of all shapes and sizes vanish into marshmallow-like layers. Japan-based Uniqlo, famous for its high-tech basics, just took us a little way into the future of winter wear by bringing about what might be the first-ever actually warm denim stretch pants.

These look just as slim as ordinary leggings and can be worn comfortably with t-shirts, tanks and crew sweaters indoors, but thanks to Uniqlo’s, well, unique, materials, they keep help keep your legs warm too.

Heat tech works by combining a very heat-reflective microfiber with alternating strands of moisture-wicking larger fibers. The very small fibers and super close weave, combined with omnidirectional stretch, act to block wind and redirect your body heat back towards you. These fibers also apparently convert moisture into more heat, taking advantage of a property that makes pure Rayon clothes so miserable in the summer.

But as anyone familiar with Uniqlo’s Heat Tech line will tell you, they also don’t get sticky and gross easily, thanks to their balance of moisture-wicking and self-drying fibers. So that’s why these futuristic leggings make for a warmer jog to the subway station, without making it miserable once you’re on the train, or in some lobby or drugstore where the furnace is turned all the way up.
