* Keep cut avocados protected from oxidation
* Prolong freshness for days, not hours
* Made from flexible, dishwasher-safe silicone
Soft, creamy and heaven with a dash of salt, avocados are a rare collision of indulgent deliciousness and hyper-nutritious superfood. But everyone can agree, despite all the yumminess and antioxidants, the avo has a down side, and that’s its limited lifespan once cut open. At best, the open avocado survives a day wrapped in plastic, with just a slight brown layer that can be scraped off, but any longer and it’s all downhill to mushy rot and straight to the compost.
But there’s good news: kitchenware temple, Sur la Table, has a simple solution for just $7.99: Faberware’s avocado hugger. Freshness can be maintained for days longer than plastic wrap or a conventional food storage container by creating an air-tight seal over the avocado. The flexible silicone “hugs” the fruit, and also saves it from dehydration.
To use, just tuck the narrow end of the avocado into the hugger then pull up over the back until the exposed area is covered. The set of two includes one small and one large avocado hugger – one with a “pit pocket” and one without, so either half can find the perfect fit for optimal freshness. The silicone huggers are BPA and phthalate-free, and dishwasher, freezer and microwave-safe.
