* Get Amazon FreeTime for Android devices
* Kid-friendly content and great parental controls
* Pay as little as $2.99/month
Amazon FreeTime is no longer limited to Amazon’s phones and tablets. With the new FreeTime app for Android, parents can now enjoy the same family-approved content and similar parental controls without buying a new device.
“Amazon FreeTime Unlimited is an all-in-one subscription for kids that offers unlimited access to thousands of kid-friendly books, movies, TV shows, educational apps and games,” says the company.
The content is geared towards three age brackets: ages 3 to 5, ages 6 to 8 and ages 9 to 12. You get 13,000 books, educational apps, games and programming from trusted brands like Disney, Nickelodeon, PBS and Amazon Originals for Kids.
Amazon FreeTime also boats the same parental controls you get from Fire Tablets, Kindle eReaders and Fire TV. You’ll know your kids are safe at a glance because the background automatically changes to blue. Social media, the internet and in-app purchases are blocked.
Other parental control features include time limits to prevent too much screen time, smart filters that were developed with input from Common Sense Media and Learn First, and a feature which blocks access to games and cartoons until educational goals are met. There are also individual profiles and a child-safe camera (Fire Tablet only).
Amazon Prime members pay $2.99/month for a single child and $6.99/month for for up to four children. The prices are $4.99 and $9.99 respectively for non-Prime users. You can bring the yearly cost of a group plan down by paying in advance: $83 for Prime, $119 for non-Prime. You also get a one-month free trial.
