* Apple launches “Today at Apple”
* The new program will offer free specialized courses
* The online portal is live and open for sign-ups
Apple has launched their new program, “Today at Apple,” with expanded educational courses offered and a new portal that is now open for sign-ups. While Apple has always offered entry-level educational classes, this new program will expand course offerings to include more specialized sessions taught by Apple-employed “creative pros,” TechCrunch reports.
The expanded class lineup will include a variety of different subjects and levels including”Studio Hours,” for those interested in specific projects and “Perspective,” where industry insiders and influencers will share their stories and provide advice for success. Larger stores will offer sessions taught by actual artists, musicians, and web designers. Today at Apple will also include expanded classes for kids called “Kids Hour.” Parents will be able to bring their children into the sessions where instructors will teach them basic coding skills and how to make movies in iMovie, for instance.
While the entry-level educational and standard “how-to” classes will still be offered, there will be more advanced and varied course offerings that will cover a wide variety of topics including photography/videography, web coding, music and painting. For example aspiring or amateur photographers can sign up for specialized training sessions that will instruct on how to produce shoots and edit photos, rather than simply learning how to mechanically operate a camera. Those interested can access the portal of classes and events offered based on area of interest, location and desired time frame at Todayatapple.com.
According to Apple reps, this new endeavor is about building — or strengthening — the apple community as whole, and distinguishing themselves as a brand who has more to offer than just high performance software and the cutting edge devices. Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail explains that the new program is being implemented to expand the Apple community by giving people the opportunity to expand on their interest and connect with others in person. “We’re creating a modern-day town square, where everyone is welcome in a space where the best of Apple comes together to connect with one another, discover a new passion, or take their skill to the next level. We think it will be a fun and enlightening experience for everyone who joins,” she said in a statement.
