Today, Amazon announced the newest additions to its lineup of Eero mesh routers: the Eero Pro 6E and the Eero 6+. These new routers allow for more bandwidth and higher speeds than ever before and support a brand-new 6 GHz band that ensures less interference between devices and better performance overall.
What We Love About the Eero Pro 6E
The Eero Pro 6E is the first WiFi 6E-enabled mesh WiFi system and supports network speeds up to 2.3 Gbps and over 100 devices simultaneously. It also gives access to the new 6GHz band so that more devices have full access to gigabit speeds throughout your home, no matter where in the house they might be. Think of the different bands on routers like lanes on a highway. While the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are the most familiar, they’re also the most crowded. The addition of a 6GHz band means there’s more space for data traffic to flow without being slowed down.
The Eero Pro 6E has one 2.5 GbE and one 1.0 GbE Ethernet port. A single device covers a space up to 2,000 square feet, while a two-pack covers up to 4,000 square feet, and a three-pack up to 6,000 square feet.
Starting today, a two-pack is available for $499 and a three-pack is available for $699. A single device will be available for $299 at an unspecified date in the future.
What We Love About the Eero 6+
The Eero 6+ is a more budget-friendly alternative (but still capable) option that accesses the 160 MHz radio channel for fast connectivity. It can support VR and 8K streaming over WiFi, and up to 75 simultaneously-connected devices. This is a more affordable option that’s suited for homes with speeds up to 1 Gbps. Each Eero device has two 1.0 GbE Ethernet ports. One device covers up to 1,500 square feet, and a two-pack covers up to 3,000 square feet. A four-pack covers up to 1,500 square feet.
Pricing and Availability
The Eero 6+ is now available for $239 for a two-pack and $299 for a three-pack. A single device will soon be available for $139.
These Eero routers work with your existing internet service and provide better control of your network. You can ask Alexa to pause specific profiles and manage Eero features. There is also a subscription service — Eero Secure + — available for $9.99 per month that provides parental controls, malware protection, password management and more. Perhaps best of all, there’s free customer support available if you run into difficulty in the setup or management of your network.
