Tesla chief executive Elon Musk is moving beyond automobiles and trying to tap into our minds. Musk confirmed this week that he has launched “Neuralink,” a start-up which aims to develop technology that would connect our brains to our computers.
Musk tweeted that the company was in its very early stages and registered as a “medical research” firm. According to reports, the research would include developing “neural lace” technology, which implants tiny electrodes into the brain to help improve memory or help give humans added artificial intelligence. The hope for scientists is that humans will eventually be able to upload and download thoughts.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the company is being funded privately by Musk and won’t have any dealings with Tesla or his day-to-day responsibilities at the automaker. Musk confirmed the existence of the company and said more details about the firm would be made public next week.
This is just the latest venture undertaken by Musk, who also runs space exploration company Space X, and transportation project, Hyperloop, in addition to leading the Tesla brand.
