Drawing from her father’s own journey coming out, Jill Soloway crafted the plot of Transparent. Set in the 1980s, Red Oaks is a comedy about discovering who you are, chronicling NYU junior-to-be David Myers who is working as a tennis pro at the prestigious Red Oaks Country Club for the summer. Starring Submarine‘s Craig Roberts as David, Red Oaks is a series that The New York Times describes as a dream scenario where “the spirits of John Hughes, Harold Ramis and the young Richard Linklater had all gotten together to consult.” Amazon picked up a third and final season of the series in January.

Fresh off his 2017 Golden Globe win for Best Actor in a Drama Series, Billy Bob Thornton stars in the latest legal drama from veteran writer-creator David E. Kelley, whose HBO limited series Big Little Lies made quite the impression this past awards season. Thornton plays Billy McBride, who was once a hotshot lawyer, but lost his way after an acquittal gone wrong. But a new case against the law firm that he helped create, pits him against the biggest Goliath yet.

Catastrophe is a British series written by and starring Rob Delaney as a Boston ad exec, and Sharon Horgan as a London schoolteacher. The comedy chronicles their relationship after Horgan’s character realizes she’s pregnant when their week-long romp ends, and Delaney’s character moves to London to be with her as a result. Emmy-nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Catastrophe has its fourth season scheduled for release in 2018.
