Virtual Reality Check: Is Your Computer Powerful Enough to Run VR?

* HTC Vive system lets you experience true VR
* Growing demand has led to VR becoming more mainstream
* Before you jump in, make sure your computer is up to snuff

It may have taken a while, but the age of virtual reality is finally here. With both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on the market for roughly a year now, more games and more technology are leading to an increasing demand for VR technology. So, if you’re looking to purchase a new headset, you might want to take a few moments to make sure your system’s up to snuff.

The HTC Vive is one of leading VR systems, and for good reason: From its headset tracking ability to the intuitive directional audio sensors and HD haptic feedback, the Vive makes you feel like you’re really there. More than that, it lets you experience all the greatness VR has to offer, whether you’re standing up or sitting down.

But to fully enjoy it, HTC recommends that your computer have at least 4GB of ram, run Windows 7 or newer and include an Intel Core i5-4590 CPU equivalent or greater. Computers less than five years old will likely pass, but some may need to upgrade the graphics card. If you’re not sure your computer is up to the task, you can actually run a PC Vive test here. Additionally, you can also check out the full list of tech specs required to run the Vive here.

All in all, the Vive VR set offers an amazing 360-degree immersive experience. And with Steam now backing it, you’re able to choose from more games and apps than ever before.
