Oscars 2018: Where to Watch This Year’s Nominees Online

* Nominations are out for the 90th annual Academy Awards
* The Shape of Water leads with 13 nominations
* Many surprising contenders in the mix as well
Hollywood is buzzing with anticipation after nominations for the 90th annual Academy Awards were announced Tuesday morning. Guillermo del Toro’s fantasy drama, The Shape of Water, leads the pack with 13 nominations, while Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri followed behind with nine nods, and war flick, Dunkirk, earned seven.

This year’s Academy Awards air live on ABC on March 4. It will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the second year in a row. Last year’s show almost ended in disaster, when presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were presented with the wrong envelope and mistakenly announced La La Land as Best Picture winner over Moonlight.

Accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, who tabulates the results, says new procedures are in place to ensure that a mix-up doesn’t happen again. Among the new rules: both the presenter and a stage manager will confirm that they’ve been given the correct envelope for the category they are about to present before the celebrity takes the stage. Rehearsals will also be mandatory to practice what to do if something goes wrong. And perhaps most importantly, PwC partners are prohibited from using cellphones or social media during the show. This, after PricewaterhouseCoopers accountant Brian Cullinan — the man behind the infamous envelope mix-up — was photographed on his cell phone leading up to the final category presentation last year.
As for the nominated pictures and stars, they have two months to campaign for that trophy, in hopes of convincing the Academy that they deserve that top prize. That also gives us two months to catch up on the movies we’ve missed, to screen them before the big night.
