You may have heard about Black Panther — the movie — breaking all kinds of records, but it’s accompanying official soundtrack is hitting the top of the charts too. Black Panther: The Album has debuted at #1 on on the Billboard 200 chart, with 154,000 units sold.

The soundtrack, which features music from and inspired by the blockbuster film, was curated by Kendrick Lamar, and the rapper is featured on five of the tracks. Of the album’s 14 songs, three are heard in the Black Panther film, including Lamar’s collaboration with The Weeknd, “
,” and his duet with SZA, “ ,” which plays during the closing credits. (Both songs, by the way, have become hits on their own, reaching the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart).

Black Panther has also spawned a second album, that features the film’s original score. With music written by Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson, in collaboration with Black Panther director, Ryan Coogler, the score explores traditional African tribal beats and choral melodies, set against an orchestral hip-hop backdrop. Göransson reportedly traveled to Senegal and South Africa to research their rich musical history, and Senegalese artist Baaba Maal even makes an appearance on a couple of the resulting tracks, singing in his native Fula dialect.
