The Best Bedsheets for Every Type of Sleeper

At the end of a long day, there are few things as divine as being able to crawl into bed and be greeted by crisp, clean and comfortable sheets. It may seem like a little thing, but it can be a bit of a big deal. And we are not saying that you need to get hotel-grade sheets or sheets with an insanely high thread count, but the material that your sheets are made with is essential and highly personal. So before we talk about what brands are available, let’s start with a quick refresher on thread counts and types of commonly found fabrics.

Does Thread Count Matter?

Thread count can start at 150, usually for kid’s and lower-priced sheets. They aren’t very soft and, when washed, tend to wrinkle. A count between 200-300 is softer and pretty standard. Once you get to about 350-400, there is a noticeable difference, but past 600, it is hard to tell from an 800 sheet thread count even though those numbers can go over 1,000. The sweet spot seems to be between 350-550, where they are affordable, comfortable and durable.

What Are the Best Sheets Made Of?

Microfiber is common and is a more refined form of polyester. Unlike cotton, it is more resistant to pilling and can be more durable. But if you tend to get hot at night, you may want to skip this material as it is less breathable than cotton. Cotton is excellent for those who have sensitive skin, and the ones made of tee-shirt-like material tend to be soft and comfy. In addition to their jersey-like material, you can find cotton in other varieties such as American Upland, Pima, and Egyptian — the finest producing supple feeling sheets.
