The Best Collapsible Coffee Cups for Camping, Traveling and Commuting

Reusable coffee cups are a great way to enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea on the go, minus the wastefulness of single-use paper and plastic cups. And there are tons of great options, ranging from thermoses that will keep your drink hot for hours to non-insulated travel cups made from glass, ceramic and bamboo that allow you to enjoy your coffee right away. What these cups all have in common is that they’re convenient when full, then inconvenient when empty. Either you carry an empty cup in your hand or stuff it in your bag, where it takes up a ton of space. That’s where collapsible coffee cups come in.

Space-saving collapsible coffee cups are often made of silicone, which is a flexible, durable and heat-resistant material. After you finish your drink, you can fold these mugs into themselves for easy storage in jacket pockets or bags. Plus, they can be great options as traveling mugs and camping mugs, where bag space is a premium. The dominant brand in this market is Stojo, a sustainability-minded company that makes stylish collapsible mugs that are suitable for hot and cold drinks. But there are other options on the market too, including options that are specifically designed for camping.

We’ve rounded up our favorite collapsible coffee cups. And, once you have the mug, you might want something to put in it. That’s why we’ve also included some great collapsible coffee drippers and even a collapsible kettle, so you can have an all-in-one coffee station right in your bag.

Here are our favorites.

1. Stojo On The Go Coffee Cup

BEST OVERALL

The Stojo coffee cup is stylish, reasonably priced and available in nearly two dozen colors, making it our favorite pick for a collapsible coffee cup. It’s available in different sizes, but the 12 oz size is the perfect medium size for everyday use. The cup is made from food-grade silicone with a plastic lid, and all of the components can be disassembled for easy cleaning, which can be done in the dishwasher. It can be used with a straw, although the straw is not included with the 12 oz cup.

2. GSI Outdoors Collapsible Fairshare Mug

BEST FOR CAMPING

This collapsible mug from GSI is made for camping, but it works well for travel, commuting or other purposes. Unlike some of the other options on this list, this mug comes with a lid. It’s not a drinking lid, however — the fitted lid is made to keep dirt out of your mug when not in use. There’s also a rotating handle for comfortable holding and a carabiner loop.

3. HUNU Collapsible Coffee Cup

BEST EVERYDAY OPTION

This stylish and compact coffee cup from HUNU folds to just 2 centimeters, making it more compact than the similarly designed cup from Stojo. The cup comes with an elastic band that serves as a sleeve when you’re drinking from it, and as a secure fastener when the cup is collapsed. Plus, the band has a small plug for the mouth of the lid, helping to keep any residual liquid from leaking out of the cup when collapsed. It holds just over 8 oz, so it may not be ideal for anyone who’s used to drinking Ventis from Starbucks. But for your daily Americano, it’s a perfect size.

4. UCO Camp Cup

MOST COMFORTABLE

Silicone cups can get pretty hot to the touch, which is why this UCO camp cup is handy — it has a handle that makes for comfortable holding. This mug doesn’t collapse as much as some other options — there are a rigid top and a silicone collapsible base, meaning it only collapses to about half its fully extended size. That said, other features help add to the portability — this mug is one of the only options with a carabiner loop for clipping to your bag.

5. Sea to Summit X-Mug

MOST COMPACT

This basic collapsible cup is made with camping in mind — it’s lightweight and less than an inch thick when folded, but when opened, it has a 16 oz capacity. This mug doesn’t have a lid, so it’s best suited for drinking right away, rather than carrying on a train or in the car. It comes in a few different colors, so you can stock up. It’s a great size and shape to use as a dog bowl, too.

7. Tayama Travel Foldable Electric Kettle

BEST TRAVEL APPLIANCE

Tips on making coffee while traveling often leave out the trickiest and most essential part: the hot water. Thankfully, this electric kettle from Tayama makes it easy. Similar to the mugs on this list, this one-of-a-kind kettle has a silicone body that folds into itself for easy packing. Of course, it’s too large for a daily tote bag or jacket, but it’s a great size for packing into a travel bag. Or take it camping (for use at base camp, obviously, unless you know of any outlets in the backcountry). It has an auto-shutoff and a 0.6-liter capacity.

8. Kikkerland Brass Collapsible Coffee Dripper

MOST STYLISH COFFEE MAKER

Silicone is usually used for collapsible cups and coffee drippers, but this option from Kikkerland upgrades to more durable metal. The brass finish gives it a stylish look, so you can leave it out in your kitchen or fold it down and pack it to take it on the go. Plus, the open chain-link design makes cleaning a breeze. It’s a great option for the office, camping, travel or even as your daily at-home coffee dripper.
