I’ll admit it: I’m a bad Star Wars fan. Sure I watch the movies and the animated shows and even read books and comics related to the world, but I always forget about May 4th. That day should be at the forefront of my mind as we get closer, as it’s a celebration of all things related to a galaxy far, far away. A play on “May the Force,” May 4th often sees the rollout of all sorts of Star Wars merch; this year is no exception — Herschel Supply Co. is debuting a collaboration that’s out of this world.
Inspired by The Mandalorian (the hottest thing in Star Wars right now), the company best known for its fantastic line of backpacks will debut different bags inspired by the show. The second part of a multi-year partnership between the two brands, the bags feature plenty of details that are likely to make them as desirable as Grogu.
The first is a take on the Little America backpack inspired by the titular steely bounty hunter himself. A series of abstract, camo-like patches adorn the bag in a nod to Mando’s body amour, while the buckles of the bag are a nod to his Beskar. Look a little closer, and you’ll see direct nods to the show in the form of his Mudhorn emblem and even a “This is the way” reference. The bag itself is one of Herschel’s most beloved staples, inspired by mountaineering with its dual front straps. Additional features of the bag include a padded laptop sleeve, adjustable drawstring closure, internal media pocket, air mesh padding on the bag, and a front pocket with plenty of storage for day-to-day essentials. In short: it’s a bag worthy of holding your most beloved bounties and giving them safe storage throughout your adventures.

The other bag in the collection is a Grogu, aka Baby Yoda-influenced take on Herschel’s Classic backpack. Akin to what you’d see in the hallways of your grade school, the Classic is a timeless and, well, classic style backpack that features a wide interior for you to hold everything you might need throughout the course of a day; side water bottle pockets make it easy to stay hydrated while the interior provides plenty of room for a laptop and other items as needed. The exterior mimics Grogu’s trademark robe and features a light green accent strap to further give it that Baby Yoda identity.

Any sort of partnership can be difficult to execute in a way that’s truly satisfying for both parties, but you’d be hard-pressed to realize that with the work Herschel has done here. The bags evoke The Mandalorian in a way that definitely pays homage to the show but without feeling like cosplay. Instead, it’s a tasteful, compelling and inspired set of bags that fans of both Star Wars and Herschel can enjoy in equal measure. Don’t miss out on your chance at this bounty when it releases on Tuesday, May 4.
