Keep Track of Your Board With These Sturdy and Well-Reviewed Surfboard Leashes

For surfing and paddleboarding, a leash is one of those occasionally overlooked essentials. They’re pretty simple accessories; they attach to your ankle or calf to secure you to your board. That way, if you wipe out or bail trying to escape an outside set, you don’t have to swim back to shore to recover your board.

While the function is pretty simple, it’s worth putting some thought into which leash you choose. There’s variation in length and design, and some leashes are specifically designed for stand-up paddleboarding (often abbreviated as SUP).

Choosing the leash that’s right for you is important, because when you’re in unpredictable waters the last thing you want to worry about is a bad leash snapping and ending your session. Get one of these well-rated and inexpensive options from Amazon so you can feel confident next time you paddle out.

The leash has a velcro cuff and is straight, as opposed to coiled.

Pros: Works for SUP or surfing, available in 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 feet varieties, has a key pocket.

2. SBS 10′ Coiled SUP Leash

This coiled leash from Santa Barbara Surfing is specifically designed for stand-up paddleboarding. It has a key pocket and a padded, comfortable ankle cuff. The coiled design means it’ll be out of the way when you’re on the board but will stretch out should you fall off.

Pros: Sturdy design for SUP, has a key pocket, comfortable padded cuff.

Cons: Cuff fits around the ankle, but can’t be worn on the calf like some prefer.

3. Ho Stevie! Premium Surf Leash

This straight leash is available in lengths between 6 and 9 feet, and has a padded ankle cuff for comfort. Like the other options, it has a key pocket on the cuff. The stainless steel swivel system is designed to prevent tangling.

Pros: Brand was founded by a surfer for other surfers. Leash plug cord included.

Cons: Some felt that the ankle strap could be sturdier.
