Every year on the first Monday in May, celebrities, editors, politicians and the who’s who of the moment converge at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to celebrate its annual Costume Institute Exhibition. This year’s theme is “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.”
Kawakubo is now only the second living designer ever to be honored at the annual exhibit, following Yves Saint Laurent in 1983. In celebration of their honoree status and Vogue Magazine’s 125th anniversary, Comme des Garcons collaborated with Vogue on a limited-edition clutch.
The one-of-a-kind clutch is made of black leather with a vibrant floral motif, gold-tone hardware and a zip-top closure. Embossed on the front is Comme des Garcons’ signature logo stamp. Perfect to slip into a larger bag for day or used as a standalone purse for a night out, this clutch is truly a standout piece.
Rei Kawakubo is a Japanese designer who founded Comme des Garcons in 1969. In a press release for the met exhibit, Rei was said to be “one of the most important and influential designers of the past 40 years.” While her much-coveted pieces are usually thousands of dollars each — and often sold-out — this clutch is an easy way to get in on the action, and to own a piece of this year’s Met exhibition theme.
