If you’ve paid any attention to fashion as of late, you’ll know that 90s and Y2K trends have reemerged from their grave just like the cicadas did this summer. And, are we upset? No, we’re not.
While style wasn’t the most… let’s say… cute… during these time periods, folks are taking the bits and pieces of 90s/Y2K fashion that actually looked good and transforming their looks to something you might see at NYFW circa 2002. Baggy jeans are back, everyone is obsessed with Crocs and fanny packs have been draping our hips all summer long. It’s semi eclectic but we can’t lie — we’re kind of loving it.
Not only that, but big designers are taking note too. Fashion weeks around the globe are looking quite similar to how they did in the late 90s to early 2000s this year, instilling the fact that this trend is here to stay.
Two of those big designers? Dr. Martens and Marc Jacobs in a brand new collaboration. This collection goes on sale at 11 a.m. EST on Thursday, September 9, and we recommend jumping on it if you don’t want to miss out.
By continuing the legacy of collaborating with one another as they did back in their iconic 1993 runway show (the one that got Jacobs fired from Perry Ellis), this collection takes notes from the badassery that occurred all those years ago with two new shoes both runway and sidewalk ready.
Meet the daring Dr. Martens x Heaven by Marc Jacobs’ Audrick 8i HMJ Croc boot and Audrick 3i HMJ Croc shoe.
According to a press release, the collection “draws heavy inspiration from the 1990s as a nostalgic celebration of ravers and other ‘90s subcultures.” With so many 90s trends resurfacing, the new Dr. Martens x Marc Jacobs collection is right on time.
By revamping the Dr. Martens 1460 boot with crocodile-print leather construction slammed on top of an Audrick platform sole, both of these shoes are easy to fall in love with at first sight. They’ve got that classic Doc-esque yellow-contrast stitching on the platform that’s matched with Jacobs’ evocative double-headed teddy bear lace charm that ties both pieces of work together exceptionally well.
These all-black beauties are paying tribute to classic 90s grunge culture in a way that feels none other than celebratory. Upon viewing, we can’t help but picture these platform chunks doused in sweat stomping their way through a rave in the Lower East Side of NYC circa ’92. Makeup smeared from head to toe, lights flashing in every direction, drinks spilling onto hot bodies, music so loud that it feels almost muffled. These are the kind of shoes you pick up at a vintage shop in Williamsburg with a story to tell. You’re simply the first person that gets to create it.
While these boots will look great mixed and matched into any regular outfit you might find yourself strutting to the office or bar in, we suggest otherwise. Sure, do that, but pay homage the right way and wear these with the craziest outfit you pull together for your next rave or music festival. Trust us, it’ll tie together the look completely.
Right now, you can snag yourself a brand new pair of both Dr. Martens x Heaven by Marc Jacobs’ Audrick 8i HMJ Croc boot and Audrick 3i HMJ Croc shoe at $200 and $160 each. Just get ready for all the double-takes you’re about to get on the street.
