Gigi Hadid has renewed her contract with Tommy Hilfiger as the brand’s womenswear ambassador for another year. This news follows the successful launches of the initial Tommy x Gigi collections for the label’s Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 seasons.
Tommy Hilfiger announced on Tuesday that Hadid will co-design upcoming collections for the next two seasons after the buzz-worthy response from the first two. This is the first time that the designer has worked alongside another “designer” in the creation of his collections, though he has hosted a number of celebrity collaborations over the years.
The first two Tommy x Gigi collections boasted social media-worthy runway shows and subsequent launch parties that made use of the “see-now buy-now” runway model, with items showcased in the show available for immediate purchase rather than being one season ahead of retail.
The designer commented on the continuation of their collaboration, citing Hadid as the natural choice for the face of the proudly American label, calling her “…a force in the fashion industry and the ultimate Tommy Girl.” And apparently, the feeling is mutual.
“Collaborating with Tommy has been an inspiring and an amazing introduction to the world of design,” the 22-year-old model said. “We’ve loved presenting our collections directly to our fans on the runway each season — it has been such a memorable experience that has been exciting to share with my followers.”
