SPY Guide: 3 Herschel Backpacks Worth the Buzz

* Three under the radar styles from everyone’s favorite backpack brand
* Little to no overt branding
* Ever heard of ApexKnit? Read on…

Since launching in 2009, Canadian backpack and accessories manufacturer, Herschel Supply Co. has steadily grown into a global phenomenon. Travel to just about any city in the U.S. or, really, any metropolitan city across the world and you’d be hard pressed to not see at least one (or a dozen) Herschel backpacks cross your path.

Yes, Herschel backpacks are everywhere, but SPY has found three distinctly different designs that all feature minimal branding and even some innovative fabric technology. You won’t have to worry about being too obvious or ubiquitous carrying these options around.

1. Dawson Backpack XS – Forest Night

Styled after classic rucksack designs, the Dawson adds a bit of modern flair with cotton canvas, magnetic strap closures and plenty of room for all your essentials. Despite the “XS” name, you’ll find up to 13L of storage capacity spread across two exterior pockets, a zippered side-access storage sleeve, and a zippered interior pocket within the main compartment. It’s all topped off by a drawstring closure and cinching flap front. The Dawson XS measures in at 13.5 x 8.75 x 5.85 inches.

2. Lawson Backpack Woven – Black

Need something slightly bigger, like one you could take to work? Consider the woven version of the Lawson an upgrade to the typical backpack you might see on the backs of students. With a ballistic nylon base, an interlaced fabric construction everywhere else and waterproof two-way zippers, this has the makings of one heck of a durable backpack. The chic all-black construction is an added bonus and so is the mesh sleeve for your laptop. The Lawson Woven measures in at 17.5 x 11.75 x 5.6 inches.

3. Apex Dayton – Quiet Grey/Nimbus Cloud

Since Nike first introduced its Flyknit technology in February of 2012, every shoe manufacturer and even Herschel has introduced their own Flyknit-like fabric technologies. Herschel’s is called “ApexKnit.” What that new fangled technology amounts to is a more minimal construction with fewer seams. The Apex Dayton features a neoprene padded sleeve for a 15-inch laptop, and a vertical front pocket with waterproof zipper. In addition, the EVA foam straps and back padding feature air mesh membrane to keep you cool and organized. The Apex Dayton measures in at 18.75 x 12.25 x 6 inches.
