You may know her best from TV, but you’ve got to admit: when it comes to being a fashion and accessories designer, Kristin Cavallari’s star is shining just as bright.
After a successful shoe collection with Chinese Laundry, and a jewelry line, Emerald Duv, with friend Chelsea Bulte, Cavallari is now branching out completely on her own, with the launch of Uncommon James — a jewelry line inspired by her family and easy, chic personal style.
Unlike many celebrity fashion and accessory lines, Cavallari’s vision was completely her own and the reality star-turned-entrepreneur wanted to “have a hand in every facet of the company.” And with Uncommon James, she did just that, bringing to life her vision for a collection that reflects her own personal style and belief that fashionable jewelry doesn’t have to “break the bank.”
Cavallari debuted her collection last week in Los Angeles, kicking off the line with an intimate launch party held at Fig & Olive in West Hollywood. The best-selling author and TV personality wore a lovely black and white two-piece set by Alice & Olivia, while speaking with guests about the inspiration for her line, as well as the origin of the collection’s title.
The designer revealed at her launch party that her husband, NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, deserves credit for half of the collection’s name. “James” is the middle name of both Cavallari’s daughter, Saylor, and her the designer’s late brother, but because it is so difficult to patent such a common name, her hubby offered the solution to add “uncommon” to the front and voila, a jewelry brand was born.

Our favorite piece from the collection is also Cavallari’s favorite: The Glitz Necklace. The “Glitz” ($89) is a gold-toned statement necklace with a traditional chain, complete with dropped crystal embellishments to make a simple jeans and T-shirt look more dressy, or to amplify the glamour to an evening look.
We also love the pretty rings offered in the collection, which can be worn alone for a subtle spark on your hand or layered with your other favorites for a personalized touch. Another standout piece from the collection is the “Uptown” bracelet ($59) — a minimal cuff that delicately wraps around the arm with small rhinestone details for just a touch of sparkle. It’s strong enough to be a statement piece, but looks great layered with a watch and other bracelets too.
