PROS: Super stylish and lightweight shoe backed by Nike’s proven technology
CONS: Chunky design may not be for everyone
TAKEAWAY: A solid way to get in on the “dad shoe” trend without forking over a ton of dough

Having recently spent a few days in Milan, there were two distinct takeaways: 1. The “work-life balance” over in Italy definitely favors more life over work, and 2. Everyone was wearing these chunky Nike sneakers.

It wasn’t just the fashion set that was wearing these sneakers either; I saw a ton of men and women rocking these unisex kicks, paired with everything from athleisure wear, to denim, to dress pants and fancy overcoats. A more accessible take on the “dad shoe” trend, these Nike M2K Tekno shoes give you that chunky sneaker look without going over the top. And at just $100, they’re decidedly more affordable than some of the designer versions that will run you almost 10x as much.

Nike M2K Tekno Sneaker

The Nike M2K Tekno features a wider silhouette that’s super easy to slip into, while a foam midsole provides lightweight cushioning for all-day comfort. We like the mix of leather and textiles, which gives you a breathable, more flexible shoe. The durable rubber sole provides solid traction, whether you’re running around in the rain in Europe, or kicking it at the beach in LA. The pops of color and design details are super cool and unexpected, which is always a bonus.

I saw a ton of guys in Europe (both in person and on street style blogs) rocking these chunky sneakers with pulled-up athletic socks, though I prefer wearing them with no-shows, for a sockless look.

I picked up this pair in a cool Pueblo Brown/Rainforest/Bright Mango/Black colorway, which stands out among the pack of basic black and white (although those classic colorways are available too). Still, I like that the reddish-brown pair works as a great neutral, pairing easily with everything from jeans to shorts to trousers. It’s the perfect size for a “chunky” sneaker too – I’ve worn this to the office without feeling like I’m on stilts or walking around with oversized clown shoes.

Reviewers seem to like these shoes too, citing their comfort, durability and versatility to fit all different styles and walks of life (no pun intended). Though I’m back in the U.S., wearing my new Nike Teknos makes me feel a little bit like I’m still in Milan, keeping up with all the cool kids across the pond.

VERDICT: Because the shoes work easily into my existing wardrobe and everyday life, they’ve given me that extra boost of confidence to feel like I’m rocking one of the big sneaker trends, without looking like I’m trying too hard. #Win.
