Labor Day is right around the corner, which means you’re running out of chances to escape for a long weekend. If you’re planning a trip at the last minute, you may have to spend more than you’d like on accommodations and travel, leaving little budget for new clothes.
If that’s the case, don’t worry–you won’t have spend your resort weekend looking stale. We put together a styling plan that will get you through a three day weekend for just under $200. Check it out and click through to shop.
1. Poolside Picks
The key to wardrobe planning on a budget is versatility. You can get by wearing the same swimsuit every day if you keep it basic. H&M’s One-Shoulder Swimsuit ($29.99) is a smart choice. Slimming black, adequate coverage and a bare decolletage do everything to flatter your figure–a must if your summer body goals have gone by the wayside.
We also like the one-piece because it can second as a bodysuit for adventures away from the hotel; just throw on some denim shorts and you’re set. As far as cover-ups go, we like the Chiffon Sarong ($16.45) from La Leela. The chiffon fabric offers a fresh break from typical options, and you can wear it as a wrap skirt, halter dress or come up with your own variation.
2. Dinner & Drinks
As relaxing as it is to lounge poolside, you’ll eventually have to call it quits for the day. Whether you’re hanging at the hotel bar, heading out for beer and pizza or going to a proper dinner, fast fashion retailers have the looks you want at the prices you need.
Crafted from stretch knit fabric, Forever 21’s Contemporary Floral Print Dress ($15.90) will bring notice. The square neck makes you look taller and thinner, while the bright color and form fitting silhouette are sure to turn heads. Thankfully, the knee-length hemline ensures that while this dress is sexy and fun, it’s still appropriate for upscale settings.
On your second night, opt for something casual in the evening (local happy hour?) and go with the H&M Denim Shorts ($9.99). If our suggestion of shorts over the swimsuit seems too risque, toss on the Jersey Top ($5.99). It’s basic, but cute.
By the time your last night rolls around, you may have eaten and drank too much to feel like wearing anything tight or revealing. Switch out the bodycon dress for the Victoria Stripe Colour Jumpsuit ($40.00) from Boohoo. The low neckline will draw the eye up from your midsection, and the vertical stripes have an additional slimming effect. Finally, the wide legs make for easy motion and maximum comfort.
3. Sunhat, Shades & Shoes
You don’t want your weekend away to give you wrinkles. Make sure you pack a sunhat to keep the harmful UV rays out of your face. This Foldable Wide Brim Straw Hat Two Pack ($15.99) from Runfon is a smart choice. Not only will two hats give you extra styling options, but the collapsible design also means they won’t take up too much space in your suitcase. And they feature an interior drawstring so that you can get a good fit, essential if your weekend plans involve a windy beach or boating.
For eyewear, we suggest the Rose Gold Sunglasses ($7.99) from H&M. They’re made from metal, which makes them less likely to break during travel, and the aviator frames compliment most face shapes. Not to mention the rose gold trend will most likely fade away once fall comes, so you should get in one last hurrah while you still can.
Last, but certainly not least, you need a shoe that’s versatile enough to wear all weekend. With an espadrille wedge and grosgrain ankle straps, the Adrianna Papell Penny ($52.99) is the right choice. It won’t look too dressy by the pool or with your denim shorts, and it’ll be just right with the floral dress and the jumpsuit.
So that’s that. All in, the total comes to $195.29 for three days worth of new clothes to wear on your last getaway of the summer. You’ll have to use your boring old beach towel, but that’s okay. Just enjoy the warm weather while while you can; winter is coming.
