Nine-time NBA All-Star and Houston Rockets point guard Russell Westbrook just released his latest collection, “House of Gasoline,” from his Honor the Gift clothing line. “HOG” is Westbrook’s seventh collection for his apparel brand, and possibly his most ambitious. With “House of Gasoline” wares, you’re literally outfitted from head to toe. And since the styles are unisex, you may want to keep your purchases under lock and key lest they get borrowed by your siblings or SO.
Don’t blame them, they just have good taste.
As the name infers, the House of Gasoline drop was Inspired by Los Angele’s auto culture and its inner city. Think vintage gas jockey uniforms, racing suits and a touch of skater vibe. Colorful embroidered patches highlight half-zip hoodies, caps, slant pocketed pants and tops. Other items like the ski masks, socks, bandanas and t-shirts are screen printed with HTG’s logo. Prices range from $18 for socks and bandanas to $180 for hoodies.
It’s a natural move for celebrities and sports figures to create a fashion line, and Russell Westbrook is known both his basketball and fashion game. Vogue was so entranced with his style that they filmed him prepping for a Louis Vuitton fashion show. After working as a campaign creative director for True Religion Jeans, it was a natural move for the athlete to create a fashion line in 2017.
After dazzling the fashion elite at various fashion shows, you’d think that Westbrook’s own clothing line would be high fashion with a price point that reflected that view. Nope. Buying an item or two from Honor the Gift won’t destroy your budget. And more importantly, it’s practical clothing that you can live in. Born in Long Beach and growing up in Hawthorne, Westbrook uses the Southern California cities he grew up in and the memories of his youth as the overall inspiration for his apparel. The name, Honor the Gift, is a subtle reminder to everyone to honor your abilities and to strive to be the best in whatever task you undertake.
Westbrook is also involved in the Black Lives Matter movement, and he recently spoke at the Compton Peace Protest. In conjunction with the National Basketball Players Association, Westbrook and Honor the Gift helped created a line of anti-racist t-shirts that players could wear during the season’s re-start. On and off the court, Westbrook has been an inspiration to many fans.
