Picking the right suit is a delicate art. Perhaps more than any other article of menswear, there’s a razor’s thin edge between executing a flawless look and looking like a clown. Tailoring can help you strike the right balance, but just like a good house, it’s helpful if you already have a sturdy foundation. That’s why we like the new Gibson suit from Taylor Stitch.
Constructed for “life on the road,” the Gibson Suit is made out of a blend of both linen and cotton. This specific fabric combination allows for a number of benefits: It’s extremely comfortable and lightweight, it’s breezy (due to the linen) while still providing structure (kudos to cotton), doesn’t need a lot of ironing and is fully machine washable (almost unheard of in suiting). Wearing a lighter material makes traveling more comfortable, but any travel suit worth its salt will have plenty of pockets. The Gibson features five different pockets — including two secure zipper pockets for more valuable items like a passport and phone — throughout the suit. Additionally, the pants are cut to be straight-fitting but on the slimmer side to provide a modern fit.
Satisfying form and function, the Gibson Suit means that you can toss the suit jacket or pants in your bag without concern about a wrinkle messing up your meeting or wasting your time before a wedding. And, as previously mentioned, you can just as easily toss both the pants and the jacket into the wash with some detergent if you’re in dire straights. This suit is definitely more business casual than strictly formal, but we love the relaxed look.
The Gibson is currently in Taylor Stitch’s Workshop program. Not entirely dissimilar to Kickstarter, the Workshop is the menswear brand’s crowdfunding platform for new product releases. Taylor Stitch designs these products and then offers a 20% discount to those who go ahead and pre-order the release, helping bring the new product to market. With this price, the entire Gibson suit is $500 — which is a great price for a travel-friendly suit made with this kind of construction. The Gibson will be available in the Taylor Stitch Workshop throughout March.
A great suit, at a great price? It’s almost too good to be true. And yet, here it is.
