* Newest update to Saint Laurent’s signature “Teddy” jacket

We know for a fact that fashion is cyclical—for better or worse— and it seems the varsity (or letterman) jacket will never go out of style no matter the cycle. Saint Laurent’s take on the American classic has been seen on everyone from Kate Upton to Cara Delevingne, and their self-dubbed “Teddy” jacket is now being re-released in a chic and pretty shade of blue.
But first, a very brief history lesson on the varsity jacket. In its earliest days, the varsity or letterman jacket was actually a sweater. History tells us it originated with the Harvard baseball team when players decided to sew an “H” onto the front of their uniforms in 1865. Fast forward a few decades and some time in the 1930s, the varsity jacket as we know it materialized in the form of a wool body jacket with leather sleeves.
This virgin wool varsity from Saint Laurent features a pale blue colorway flanked by white leather trim and lined with black silky twill. (If you’re wondering about sizing, and you should be, the center back length is approximately twenty two inches). The rib knit collar, cuffs and hem keep the fit close to the body, without being overly constricting. Pair it with sneakers for a true collegiate look, or style it with heels and a leather clutch for a night out.
Unlike high school and college athletes, you won’t have to put up with two-a-days to get your hands on this varsity jacket. But be forewarned: as one of Saint Laurent’s most popular styles, this jacket won’t be available for long.
