Roller bags are your body’s best friend. Perfect for every day use, weekend getaways, or long trips, roller bags are easy on your back, shoulders and your arms, with telescoping handles that make pulling your heavy belongings a breeze.
When it comes to finding a roller bag that works for you, a wide range of sizes, styles, materials and features means that you can find a bag that fits your needs, whatever they are. If you’re looking for an everyday bag for school or work, roller bags designed as backpacks are versatile. They can be pulled, which is especially advantageous for anyone carting around heavy textbooks, files, a computer and gadgets, or they can be worn as a backpack, which is a great option to have when you’re on a crowded bus or want to keep your bag off the ground during rain or snow storms.
Roller duffle bags are another common style that we like. Roller duffles make an ideal piece of luggage for weekend getaways or for carting sports equipment around, with their wide openings and easy to use handles making them perfect for anyone who needs to carry a big load and doesn’t want to have the strain of the weight of their belongings on their shoulder. Roller duffles also come with straps, making them easy to lift in and out of cars, carry up a set of stairs, or carry when they’re empty.
Roller bags are gaining in popularity thanks to their ease of use and versatility, with fans of roller bags using them for carting everything from groceries to files, heavy books to drinks and snacks during a day at the park or at a sporting event.
Below we’ve included some of our favorite roller bags, with two backpack options that are available in a wide variety of color combinations, helping you to find the roller back that fits your needs. Happy rolling!
1. J World New York Sundance LAPTOP Rolling Backpack
Measuring 20 inches H, 13.5 inches W and 9 inches D, the J World New York Sundance LAPTOP Rolling Backpack is perfect for any student or someone looking for a great weekend getaway bag. The large main compartment features a padded laptop sleeve that fits a laptop or tablet up to 15.4 inches. The bag is designed with 600D polyester and has a water-resistant finish to help keep your valuables dry. Two mesh side pockets make accessing an umbrella or water bottle easy, with a front pocket organizer featuring pen and card organizers, a clear ID window, and one interior zip for personal items. Pros include the bags’ 21.5 inch telescoping handle that makes for a smooth ride as a roller bag, while a slip-in system makes it easy to keep the padded shoulder sleeves hidden when rolling and exposed when it’s time to use the bag like a backpack. One con noted by customers is that there’s no cover for the wheels, so if you choose to use the bag like a backpack the wheels will touch your clothing.

2. Olympia 22 Inch 8 Pocket Rolling Duffle
If a duffle roller bag is more your style, we recommend the Olympia 22 Inch Pocket Rolling Duffle. Bigger than the J World roller bag, the Olympia measures 22 inches W, 12 inches H and 12 inches D with a push-button retractable handle for rolling and two side handles for carrying. With a wide U-shape opening, pros of the bag include its large main compartment, which is easy to pack thanks to its large zippered opening. The bag is made tough, with 1200D polyester and recessed in-line skate metal ball bearing wheel system that makes for a smooth ride. Three wide plastic feet mean the bag can easily stand vertically when not in use. The bag features eight zipped pocket options of varying sizes, making it easy to keep your belongings organized. Cons of the bag include the wheels, which do not rotate, which makes it more difficult to maneuver the bag, and the length, which is too large for most airlines carry on restrictions.

3. Rockland Luggage 17 Inch Rolling Backpack
Boasting similar features of the J World but with a lower price point, the Rockland Luggage 17 Inch Rolling Backpack measures 13″ L X 10″ W X 17″ H and is made from durable polyester. The Rockland is also a backpack style roller bag and has a front pocket organizer and side mesh pockets for water bottles or an umbrella, but it does not have the padded laptop sleeve and stands three inches shorter. The Rockland has a metal telescoping handle, but a con is the lack of a hidden back pocket to store the shoulder straps when the bag is being rolled. One of the pros is that the Rockland bag adheres to most airline carry on size restrictions unlike the J World or Olympia.
