While wearing a cloth mask is important for protecting you and others from infection of COVID-19, or the coronavirus, experts are saying that washing and sanitizing your hands is also one of the best ways to protect yourself. The best hand sanitizers and hand soap can keep you germ-free at any time of the day, no matter what you’ve touched.

Thoroughly washing your hands is always a best practice when it comes to avoiding illness during cold and flu season. However, it’s more important than ever to be diligent about sanitizing your hands. Frequently washing your hands can protect you from getting the infection from others, and infecting others as a silent carrier of the illness.

What we can do, no matter where we live or what we’ve been exposed to, is wash our hands. Unfortunately, hand sanitizer is hard to find right now, as panic shopping has resulted in a run on face masks, non-perishable goods and antibacterial soaps. Many online retailers are sold out of popular antibacterial hand sanitizer brands like Purell. As the initial retail hit has subsided, and more brands have started dedicating manufacturing and supply chains to creating hand sanitizer and cleaning agents, more have become available. We’ve found a bunch of these brands for you to check out today, all of which are available to order online easily.

Some Do’s and Don’ts For Hand Washing

  • According to the Mayo Clinic, you should always wash your hands before eating or preparing food, treating a wound or removing or putting in contact lenses.
  • You should also avoid touching your face, nose, eyes or inside of your ears as much as possible during the day.
  • Always wash your hands after using the bathroom, blowing your nose, touching germ-heavy surfaces like keyboards and door handles and handling garbage.
  • When washing your hands, wet your hands and lather up using antibacterial soap. Rub your hands vigorously together for at least 20 seconds, scrubbing your wrists and underneath your fingernails.
  • Dry your hands with a clean towel or air dry them.
