Michael Aram is an artist and designer who might be best known for his distinctive tableware pieces and decorative sculptures, recognizable with their stainless steel, gold and silver finishes. Thanks to his love of nature and antique workmanship, Aram has ventured out of his comfort zone to create this beautiful, one-of-a-kind Special Edition Chess Set.
Modeled after a “medieval floral fantasy” motif, the chess set is rife with fantastical creatures, such as unicorns with petal manes representing the knight, and king protea flowers abstracted to represent the King.
The chess board itself is your traditional black and white checkered playing field, only taken to the next level by the addition of marble and accented with nickel plate decorative leaves.
Aram’s work ranges from metal-ware, home accessories and fine jewelry designs sold in galleries and specialty stores worldwide. He launched his first metalware collection in 1989 after taking a trip to India where he began working with traditional artisanal techniques.
