Every year since 2002 (with a few gaps), Oprah fans have waited with bated breath around the holidays for the release of her Favorite Things list. Of course, back when all of this started, Oprah Winfrey actually gave away the holiday gift guide items on her eponymous show.
Just for fun, here are a few examples of Oprah’s favorite things from earlier versions of her list. In the inaugural year (2002), Oprah gave her audience Garrett’s popcorn, a JLo velour sweatsuit and a wafer-thin CD system. The 2003 list saw the addition of a Blackberry phone and in 2004, guests received Apple Bottom Jeans by Nelly. In the show’s final Favorite Things episode, which aired in 2010, Oprah even gave away a Volkswagen Beetle to every audience member.
While most of us never got to attend Oprah’s Favorite Things shows, thankfully the queen bee of daytime TV continues to publish her list every year. And thanks to her generosity of those early years combined with her sheer sense of style, we all still love her holiday suggestions.
