Overstuffed Closets and Drawers Be Gone: The Best Under Bed Storage Solutions

Let’s face it: You’ve probably got too much clutter in your life and you need some under bed storage. And we don’t just mean shoving things under the bed and pretending they’re not there. That’s just asking for an army of dust bunnies all over your stuff.

When we say under bed storage, we mean organizers, drawers, bins, bags and everything in between for everything all of those miscellaneous shoes, clothes, mementos, blankets, personal items and all the other stuff you don’t use on a day-to-day basis.

To help you cut down on clutter and free up some closet and drawer space, we’ve rounded up a bunch of great under bed storage solutions. Whatever you’re trying to stow away, you’ll find something below to help you put things out of sight and out of mind.

Pro Tip: Combine these under bed storage products with our favorite closet organization hacks and get rid of clutter for good!

1. Home-It Bed Risers

BEST RISERS

We usually kick off our round-ups with our pick for the best overall item. But before we even get to storage containers and bags, we have to start with bed risers. If you want to maximize your under bed storage possibilities without buying a whole new bed, bed risers are the organization hack that will change your life, or, at least, your bedroom. (They definitely changed your writer’s.)

Bed risers are basically super-strong plastic mounts that go under the legs of your bed to loft your bed a bit further off the ground. The obvious consequence is a ton more room under your bed for storage. Place these 5.25-inch high-impact resistant plastic risers under the legs of your bed and you’ll have almost a half-foot of extra storage space you didn’t have before. If the legs of your bed are about six inches, you’ll be almost doubling the available space and really opening up new under bed storage solutions. These risers have a 1-inch lip so the legs of your bed won’t roll or be easily knocked loose.

The only downside is you have to hop a bit higher to get into bed, but that’s a small price for creating much-needed under bed storage space.

2. Lifewit Under Bed Clothes Organizer

BEST OVERALL STORAGE

When it comes to actual under bed storage containers, you’re going to want something that offers some protection but that also slides out easily from under the bed, no matter what you end up storing. We think the Lifewit Under Bed Clothes Organizer is the best under bed storage solution to meet your needs. Unlike plastic storage bags, these bags are pretty solid for something that you can fold up and slide in the closet.

They’re made of a thick fabric and the sides and dividers are stiff enough to hold their shape. You can also easily modify the dividers to change the sizes of the partitions to suit your needs, whether you’re storing shoes and clothes or quilts, pillows and sheets. Most importantly, these bags are just the right size. They’re about 3 feet long, a bit more than 2 feet wide and about 6 inches tall, plus you get two of these bags with each order. And unlike some storage bags, these zip shut with a transparent plastic vinyl cover, which makes it easy to find what you’re looking for at a glance.

3. Open Spaces Under Bed Storage Bins

MOST MINIMALIST STORAGE

Our next pick is a SPY favorite and one we’ve covered in depth before. Open Spaces understands that under bed storage (and general life organization) doesn’t have to be all about utility. Aesthetics matter too, and Open Spaces makes high-quality, elegant storage solutions. For under bed storage, we’ve got our eyes on the Open Spaces Under Bed Storage Bins.

These two little lovelies are made from a light grey compressed felt that slides and stores easily with handles made from genuine leather, so they look good, protect your gear and will last from move to move. Resembling a modern, minimalist suitcase, these under bed storage bins are square-shaped, with a length and width a little over 2 feet and a height of 6.75 inches. That’s a good amount of storage space in a straight-up beautiful package that you won’t mind your friends or parents seeing when they poke their heads into your bedroom. The only downside is the price, but if it makes you feel any better, the felt is made from recycled plastic bottles and the leather comes from a tannery committed to sustainable sourcing, and circular and sustainable economies are worth supporting when possible.

4. Iris Usa Under Bed Box Chest Drawers

BEST PLASTIC DRAWERS

Drawers make for ideal under bed storage, but actual furniture is expensive as heck. That’s why there’s no shame in picking up a few plastic stackable drawers, like the Iris Usa Under Bed Box Chest Drawer pack of two. Are they the prettiest drawers you can get? Definitely not, but they’re nonetheless perfect for storing assortments of smaller items like accessories and crafts as well as bigger items like blankets, yoga mats, T-shirts, pants or a few pairs of shoes. Each box is 2.5 feet long, 1.5 feet wide and just under 6 inches tall.

5. Ikea Malm Under Bed Storage Boxes

BEST ROLLING DRAWERS

As we mentioned above, furniture is expensive, but that’s why we have Ikea. If you are looking for proper drawers for under your bed, then you can’t get better value than the Ikea Malm under bed storage boxes. These two white boxes are made from particleboard, so they’re significantly more sturdy than most other options while also being significantly cheaper than solid wood drawers. Thankfully Ikea put wheels on the bottom, so you can easily slide these boxes out just like drawers and push them back under your bed when you’ve got what you need. We chose the white Malm boxes because they’re the cheapest option, but if you can spend a bit more you can get other neutral colors.

6. Shozafia Large Rolling Under Bed Storage Bins

BEST STORAGE BINS

Rather than using a hodgepodge of under bed storage containers, sometimes it’s easier to just pay a bit more upfront for one great solution. That’s one problem the Shozafia Large Rolling Under Bed Storage Bin can solve. As the name suggests, these are large, sturdy plastic bins with wheels for easy rolling in and rolling out. The hard plastic makes these three bins among the more durable options for under bed storage in case you want to throw other heavier items on top of them or stack them on top of each other. Conveniently, the bins also can open on both sides, so if something is stuffed on one end you can just get it from the other side of the bed. And that might actually happen because these bins are over 3 feet long, more than 1.5 feet wide and 7 inches tall, so you’ll have plenty of space to organize your stuff on one side of the bin and a partner’s things on the other.
