Two Tools to Hack (and Heighten) Your Wine Experience

* You might not be drinking or serving wine at the right temperature
* Both of these wine hacks will elevate your wine imbibing experience
* Aerate whites at your own risk

You might not want to hear this, but you should know that you’ve probably been enjoying wine at the wrong temperature. Unless you have a wine cellar or you happen to live in a castle, it is both a sad and sobering fact. However, we’ve tracked down not one but two clever wine tools that are sure to help you serve the next bottle of red or white at the optimal temperature and time.

Thanks to modern advances in, well, just about everything, we’ve been serving our wines all wrong. We serve whites straight out of the fridge at a frigid 40-something, when they should be somewhere in the mid-50s. Reds, on the other hand, should be served at room temperature, if the temperature of the room were somewhere in the low 60s and not in the mid-to-high 70s.

But getting your wine to the right temperature is only half the battle. Oxidation and aeration can work wonders. Unlike decanting, which removes sediment while letting the wine “breathe,” simply aerating your next bottle of red can, in most cases, make a significant difference in terms of enjoying a robust flavor.

Now that you have a sliver of wine knowledge under your belt, here are two wine tools to help you enjoy that next bottle or case (because it’s way cheaper) the way it was meant to be imbibed.

1. The Wine Wand

The Wine Wand is a do-it-all tool that aerates, chills and even triples as a stopper. Made up of two parts, the “wand” portion is actually a brushed steel rod that can quickly cool or maintain an optimal temperature for a longer period of time. It comes with two rods, so you can swap out for another when you need to. The second part doubles as a wide-mouth spout that aerates the wine as you pour.

2. Corkcicle Air 4-in-1 Chiller, Aerator, Pourer, Stopper

The Corkcicle Air, on the other hand, is a 4-in-1 accessory that stops, pours, aerates and chills. It’s comprised of a cork and spout that are connected to a long piece of thermal gel. Like the Wine Wand, the Corkcicle Air gets both reds and whites to the optimal temperature and introduces oxidation and evaporation while you pour.

Both the WineWand and Corkcicle Air effectively do the same thing, but if we had to pick just one, the winner might just be the Wine Wand. Why? Because it comes with two rods that can be changed out in order to keep your vino around the right temperature for longer than the Corkcicle Air. This is, however, a pretty objective reason and you are, of course, free to make your own decision. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
