1. Sequoia National Park, CA
Rustic-minded travelers should consider a trip to Sequoia National Park in California. Spanning over 400,000 acres, there are plenty of landmarks to see, but some of the most popular include the granite cliffs of Tokopah Falls and Sherman Tree Trail, a 0.8 mile (round trip) paved trail. Truly outdoorsy visitors can stay at one of the park’s 14 campsites, but folks who prefer creature comforts can book a stay at one of the surrounding lodges.
2. Catskill Mountains, New York
East Coasters looking for a weekend away this fall should consider the Catskill Mountains. The hiking trails of Slide Mountain (the Catskill’s highest peak) provide an excellent setting for Instagram photos. If you’re staying in the town of Catskill, be sure to visit the Thomas Cole National Historic Site and Dutchman’s Landing.

5. Seattle, WA
Best known for Grunge Rock and the Space Needle, Seattle, WA also offers beautiful fall foliage. Visit Kerry Park in the Queen Anne Hill neighborhood to see the fall colors, and don’t miss Chihuly Garden and Glass or the The Museum of Flight while you’re in town.
6. Spearfish, SD
Motorcycle enthusiasts may recognize this small town in the Black Hills of South Dakota for its proximity to the Sturgis Rally, but it’s also a great place to admire the beauty of fall. Visit Spearfish Canyon and Bridal Veil Falls to see the foliage, and be sure to stop by the Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary before you taste beer at Crow Peak Brewing Company.
