What You Need to Know About Black Seed Oil and Its Benefits

Every day there seems to be a new natural remedy that promises to solve all of your health issues. And while this won’t solve every problem, black seed oil has been known to help plenty of people. As noted by Medical News Today, black seed oil has appeared in several medical studies and has shown to help treat anything from eczema to infertility. Did we mention it’s also affordable and easy to consume? It’s time to start using black seed oil.

Black seed oil, which is typically made from a combination of kalonji, black caraway, black cumin, and black onion seeds, comes from Nigella stevia, a flowering shrub that grows in Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. As with any oil, it should be used in consultation with your medical provider as there can be some negative side effects, including rashes when used topically or upset stomach when ingested.

Black seed oil has a strong taste and works best when it is consumed raw in its liquid form. If ingesting a teaspoon of black seed oil on its own doesn’t sound tempting, it can also be mixed into salad dressings or teas and it’s available in capsule form.

Cons: Although Zhou says it’s taste-free, you may notice a slight taste, so we recommend chasing it with a flavorful drink like coffee or juice to wash it down.

2. MAJU’s Black Seed Oil

The major drawback to using black seed oil is the taste and thankfully with MAJU’s Black Seed Oil, the company has found a way to lessen the flavor of the oil without taking away from its long list of health properties. MAJU uses Turkish cumin seed oil which is light and palatable but still contains up to four times more thymoquinone than most other black seed oils, which is the antioxidant that helps boost immunity.

Pros:  MAJU’s black seed oil, which they recommend adding to everything from coffee to smoothies, baked goods and yogurt, features an array of omega 3, 6, and 9, which help with digestion and heart health.

Cons: AMAJU is non-GMO, cold pressed and made without the use of pesticide or herbicide-free, but unlike Zhou, it’s not USDA Certified Organic.

3. Healths Harmony Black Seed Oil

If you can’t stomach liquid black seed oil, we recommend Healths Harmony, which offers easy to swallow capsules. Each 500 mg soft gel capsule is packed with natural Vitamin E and helps to purge toxins and promote healthy digestion in the body.

Pros: Healths Harmony makes their capsules in a Good Manufacturing Practices-certified facility in the US using a system that blocks out oxygen from the tablets to ensure the black seed oil is maintained in its purest and therefore most potent form.

Cons: Although the capsules have only a mild flavor, there is still an aftertaste of black seed oil.
