Sometimes the greatest, strongest, most therapeutic things come in small packages. Tiny but mighty is the only way to describe our new favorite fitness recovery gadget — the mini massage gun. You’ve heard us talk about the plentiful number of massage guns available out there from Theragun alternatives to cheap Amazon massage guns — and I’ve even given you a review of the addsfit mini massage gun featured on this list. However, it’s time to get serious about this new massage gun trend and let you know that no matter who you are, you need one of these. Not only are they perfect for deep tissue work and muscular recovery at any level of activity, they’re also great for easing the tension that we all accumulate throughout our bodies due to… well, life?
If you’re a giant, beefy, muscular person with layers of tissue that need to be worked on — a regular massage gun is probably a better idea for you. However, if you’re a moderately active person who gets sore, someone whose spine is feeling the WFH effects or you’re curious about the massage gun movement — I recommend you start off by going mini. Not only are these tiny guns adorable — they pack a serious punch in a way smaller, more compact and more affordable package. They’re great for targeting certain muscle groups, knots and sore spots — and while larger massage guns might only have one or two levels of intensity your body can handle before it becomes too intense, minis are the perfect level of good discomfort. If you haven’t worked a muscle group in a while you’ll feel the gun working, but it won’t become actively unpleasant or too much to handle.
Here are some of my favorite mini massage guns at the moment. This is a brand new product in the recovery fitness world, so I’ll be sure to add to/update this list as more models get released.
addsfit Mini Massage Gun
I received a complimentary tester of this massage gun back in the fall of 2020 and I still use it regularly. It’s GREAT – the size is perfect for me as a 5’9″ female who works out regularly but certainly doesn’t have bulging biceps. It’s easy to hold with a sleek metallic finish and it’s very easy to operate — as you turn it on, off and switch the intensity levels with just one button.
It weighs less than a pound, but on any intensity level feels like it’s doing work to alleviate tension, soreness and speed up recovery. It comes with two different massage heads — the flat palm-like one and the bullet trigger point. I’ve used the bullet one only a handful of times and prefer the flat one unless I’m working through a very specific pain point.
The motor is super quiet, with a noise level of 39dB, and I’ve never had a problem with the battery life. I charge it semi-regularly and it’s always worked when I’ve wanted to turn it on.
Great Pick For: Someone who’s new to the mini massage gun world, or the massage gun world in general.
2. LifePro DynaMini Massage Gun
This mini massage gun from LifePro isn’t one I’ve personally tried, but it has very high reviews on Amazon as users seem to love it. It has a 70W ultra-quiet motor with intensity levels ranging from 900RPM all the way to 3200RPM, and at the size of a smartphone it’s easy to bring anywhere.
It’s slightly heavier than the addsfit gun, at 1.6 pounds total — and it has a rechargeable battery that lasts three hours on a single charge. You also charge this gun, and many other mini massage guns, via USB-C, making it a clean, seamless charging experience. One of the major perks of this gun, that almost forced it into the top position, is the variety of massage gun heads it comes with. It has the classic ball that’s great for generally pulsating through muscle groups, a flat palm-style one, a bullet trigger point and a fork that’s excellent for working along the spine.
Great Pick For: Both the addsfit and this gun clock in at $100, and IMO you can’t go wrong with either one.
3. RecoverFun Mini Massage Gun
This mini massage gun comes with a recommendation from a professional chiropractor for its power, ease of use and quiet noise level. It has a noise level of 30-42dB which is VERY quiet, so it’s excellent for therapeutic environments where you’d rather the buzz from a loud massage gun not disrupt a zen vibe. It’s very compact, also about the size of a smartphone at 138mm tall, and weighs just over a pound.
The battery lasts for five hours on a single charge, so not the longest but not the shortest amidst the guns. It also comes with four speeds that range between 1800-3200 percussions per minute, and four different massager heads that are identical to the options above.
Great Pick For: The main selling point of this gun is the noise level — so if you need peace and quiet this is the gun for you.
4. Theragun Mini
BEST FOR ON-THE-GO
This mini Theragun has all the same muscle-soothing capabilities as their regular guns, but comes in a much smaller, portable package. The gun is pocket-sized, making it perfect for throwing in your backpack on a long hike for those dreaded calf cramps or busting out on the slopes if your knee decides to act up. You get their top-notch treatment without having to lug a giant device, and it still has three speeds and 150 minutes of battery life on every charge. It’s ultra-quiet, so airplane therapy seshes aren’t off the table, and the design makes it super easy to dig into tough spots using your whole hand.
5. BOB and BRAD Q2 Mini Massage Gun
I love the ergonomic design of this mini massage gun, and the rubber handle looks like it would be slightly easier to hold for long periods of time than the metallic ones. Bob and Brad are both physical therapists who have designed a whole line of massage guns designed to ease pain and promote healthy recovery. This mini massage gun has a brushless, proprietary motor that reaches speeds up to 3,000rpm at a vibration amplitude of 7mm (this means the head is moving that far into your muscle, so to speak). It has five adjustable speeds in total and five massage gun heads — with the addition of an air cushion head that’s made for sensitive muscle work.
Great Pick For: This massage gun has more to offer in terms of variety and design than the other picks and slightly cheaper price tag, so if you’re looking for a catch-all gun without a ton of specialty this is a great pick.
6. Nekteck Mini Massage Gun
This massage gun isn’t as small as the other mini ones on this list, but is not as large as the regular massage guns either. It has comparable features to the other picks — with a high torque motor, five adjustable speeds up to 3200rpm, six interchangeable heads, and 6-8 hours on a single charged battery. The battery life is a bit longer and the gun comes with a few massage gun head varieties we haven’t seen yet (pictured below). The most notable part of this gun and the biggest selling point that differentiates it from the others is the smart shut-off features. This gun is equipped with a 10 minute timer after which the gun turns off to protect you from overuse. I love this feature because I think it can be easy to use these guns like you would a regular massage, and since they’re penetrating deeper and with more force you really shouldn’t be using it for more than 10 minutes a day, 3-4 days a week.
Great Pick For: Those new to mini massage guns who also have self control issues when it comes to things that feel awesome.
7. Astamaniana Mini Massage Gun
LONGEST BATTERY LIFE
Charger-avoidant? If your phone battery is always dying because you forgot to charge it or your AirPods case is nowhere to be found — this mini massage gun is the pick for you. It can run continuously for up to 12 hours on a single charge depending on what intensity level you’re using. It offers levels ranging from 1700-3500 beats per minute, and has built-in 2500mAh lithium batteries that can outrun even the fastest athletes who will be using it. Endurance is key, baby. Otherwise, this massage gun is pretty standard with four massage gun heads and the small, compact size you’re expecting.
Great Pick For: Those who already know they’re going to forget to charge it between uses.
8. Medcursor Portable Mini Massage Gun
This mini massage gun is super lightweight — at 0.99 pounds total, but doesn’t sacrifice much power in the process. The motor is pretty quiet, at 35-45dB depending on the intensity level. The RPM’s don’t go up as high as other mini massage guns do, as they max out at the third intensity level of 2800, but the battery life can last for up to 10 hours which is longer than most. The gun also has a similar feature to the Nekteck one with a 10-minute self timer that’ll prevent you from over-using and extend the battery life further.
Great Pick For: Those with arthritis or dexterity issues who can’t clutch heavy objects easily, or those who need an ultra-portable gun that won’t weigh down their suitcase or gym bag.
9. cotsoco 4-Speed Mini Massage Gun
This mini massage gun basically matches the features, size, battery life and gun-head variety count of the other picks but is about $20-$30 cheaper. If you’re not quite sold and don’t want to spend $100 on one — go with this one instead. For a lower price tag you still get four different speed settings, 5-6 hours of battery life on a single charge, a super quiet motor and four different massage gun heads. You also get the compact, portable size that you can use for therapeutic relief anywhere.
Great Pick For: Those on a limited budget who are unsure of whether mini massage guns are right for them.
FAQs About Mini Massage Guns
Mini massage guns are smaller, more compact versions of larger massage guns like the Theragun or Hypervolt guns. They have all or most of the same functionality as bigger guns but are designed to be more compact, easily portable and lighter weight.
Mini massage guns slightly vary in size, but they're normally about 6"-7" tall and a few inches wide with the head sticking out. They're about the size of most large iPhone screens, and can fit easily in the palm of your hand.
