Sometimes the greatest, strongest, most therapeutic things come in small packages. Tiny but mighty is the only way to describe our new favorite fitness recovery gadget — the mini massage gun. You’ve heard us talk about the plentiful number of massage guns available out there from Theragun alternatives to cheap massage guns and the addsfit mini massage gun featured below.
In our quest to find the best percussion massagers, we’ve tested a lot of massage guns over the years. In our testing, we’ve found that the best mini massage guns are perfect for deep tissue work and muscular recovery at any level of activity, but they’re also great for easing the tension that we all accumulate throughout our bodies due to… well, life?
Mini massage guns have a few benefits over full-sized massagers:
- Lower price tag
- Same level of intensity in smaller package
- Highly portable
- Ideal for athletes without bulging muscles
If you’re a giant, beefy, muscular person with layers of tissue that need to be worked on — a regular massage gun is probably a better idea for you. However, if you’re a moderately active person who gets sore, someone whose spine is feeling the WFH effects or you’re curious about the massage gun movement — we recommend you start off by going mini.
Not only are these tiny guns adorable, but they also pack a serious punch in a way smaller, more compact and more affordable package. They’re great for targeting certain muscle groups, knots and sore spots, and while larger massage guns might only have one or two levels of intensity your body can handle before it becomes too intense, minis are the perfect level of good discomfort. If you haven’t worked a muscle group in a while you’ll feel the gun working, but it won’t become actively unpleasant or too much to handle.
Here are some of my favorite mini massage guns at the moment. This is a brand new product in the recovery fitness world, so I’ll be sure to add to/update this list as more models get released.
1. Theragun Mini
This mini Theragun has all the same muscle-soothing capabilities as Theragun’s top-rated massage guns, but it comes in a much smaller, portable package. The Theragun Mini is pocket-sized, making it perfect for throwing in your backpack on a long hike for those dreaded calf cramps or busting out on the slopes if your knee decides to act up. You basically get their top-notch percussive massage treatment without having to lug around a giant device, and it still has three speeds and 150 minutes of battery life on every charge. It’s ultra-quiet, so you can massage your muscles while watching TV, and the design makes it super easy to dig into tough spots.
Great Pick For: Busy lifestyles and muscle pain. Feel good when moving from A to B knowing a muscle-soothing massage is only a mini massage gun away.
2. addsfit Mini Massage Gun
Spy E-Commerce Editor Taylor Galla tested this mini massage gun back in the fall of 2020, and she still uses it regularly, which isn’t the case for most of the products we test. In fact, we rated it one of the best massage guns overall at the time, as the size is perfect for smaller athletes who work out regularly but don’t have bulging biceps. It’s easy to hold with a sleek metallic finish, and it’s very easy to operate, as you turn it on, off and switch the intensity levels with just one button.
It weighs less than a pound, but on any intensity level, it feels like it’s doing big work to alleviate tension, soreness and speed up recovery. It comes with two different massage heads — the flat palm-like one and the bullet trigger point. (We prefer the flat one unless working on a very specific pain point.) The motor is super quiet, with a noise level of 39dB, and the batter holds up well to regular use.
Great Pick For: Someone who’s new to the mini massage gun world, or the massage gun world in general.
3. RENPHO Mini Massage Gun
The best part of the RENPHO Mini Massage Gun is that it comes with five attachments to target the most popular massage-needing areas of the body. The flat head, air cushion and ball head are the most versatile, as they cover different muscle zones. However, the bullet head is best suited for joints and trigger points. But our favorite attachment is definitely the fork head, which is specifically designed to target the neck, spine and achilles tendon. These RENPHO massagers are the top-rated massage guns on Amazon, with more than 4,400 reviews and an excellent 4.8-star rating.
While it looks like a full-sized massage gun, it’s extremely compact, and because of the strong intensity (at the highest setting, this massager reaches 3,200 RPM) and multiple massage heads, it’s a strong contender among the best mini massage guns of 2021. It is slightly more expensive than many of the other products on this list, but RENPHO has a reputation for making high-quality, long-lasting massagers.
Great Pick For: Targeted deep tissue massaging by utilizing the specifically designed five attachments included.
4. LifePro DynaMini Massage Gun
This mini massage gun from LifePro has excellent reviews on Amazon. It has a 70W ultra-quiet motor with intensity levels, ranging from 900RPM all the way to 3,200 RPM, and at the size of a smartphone, it’s easy to bring anywhere.
It’s slightly heavier than the addsfit gun, at 1.6 pounds total — and it has a rechargeable battery that lasts three hours on a single charge. You also charge this gun, and many other mini massage guns, via USB-C, making it easy to charge. One of the major perks of this gun, which almost forced it into the top position, is the variety of massage gun heads it comes with. It has the classic ball that’s great for generally pulsating through muscle groups, a flat palm-style one, a bullet trigger point and a fork that’s excellent for working along the spine.
Great Pick For: Both the addsfit and this gun clock in at $100, and you can’t go wrong with either one.
5. RecoverFun Mini Massage Gun
This mini massage gun comes with a recommendation from a professional chiropractor for its power, ease of use and quiet noise level. It has a noise level of 30-42dB, which is VERY quiet, so it’s excellent for therapeutic environments where you’d rather the buzz from a loud massage gun not disrupt a zen vibe. It’s very compact, about the size of a smartphone at 138mm tall, and weighs just over a pound.
The battery lasts for five hours on a single charge, so not the longest but not the shortest amidst the guns. It also comes with four speeds that range between 1,800 and 3,200 percussions per minute as well as four different massager heads that are identical to the options above.
Great Pick For: The main selling point for this gun is the noise level, so if you need peace and quiet, this is the gun for you.
6. BOB and BRAD Q2 Mini Massage Gun
I love the ergonomic design of this mini massage gun, and the rubber handle looks like it would be slightly easier to hold for long periods of time than the metallic ones. Bob and Brad are both physical therapists who have a whole line of massage guns designed to ease pain and promote healthy recovery. This mini massage gun has a brushless, proprietary motor that reaches speeds up to 3,000rpm at a vibration amplitude of 7mm (this means the head is moving that far into your muscle, so to speak). It has five adjustable speeds in total and five massage gun heads — with the addition of an air cushion head that’s made for sensitive muscle work.
Great Pick For: This massage gun has more to offer in terms of variety and design than the other picks and a slightly cheaper price tag, so if you’re looking for a catch-all gun without a ton of specialty, this is a great pick.
7. Nekteck Mini Massage Gun
This massage gun isn’t as small as the other mini ones on this list, but it is not as large as the regular massage guns, either. It has comparable features to the other picks — with a high torque motor, five adjustable speeds up to 3,200 RPM, six interchangeable heads, and six to eight hours on a single charged battery. The battery life is a bit longer, and the gun comes with a few massage gun head varieties we haven’t seen yet (pictured below). The most notable part of this gun and the biggest selling point is the smart shut-off features. This gun is equipped with a 10-minute timer after which the gun turns off to protect you from overuse. This is a great feature because it can be easy to over-rely on the best massage guns. Since they’re penetrating deeper and with more force, you really shouldn’t be using one for more than 10 minutes a day.
Great Pick For: Those new to mini massage guns who also have self-control issues when it comes to things that feel awesome.
8. Astamaniana Mini Massage Gun
LONGEST BATTERY LIFE
Charger-avoidant? If your phone battery is always dying because you forgot to charge it or your AirPods case is nowhere to be found, this mini massage gun is the pick for you. It can run continuously for up to 12 hours on a single charge, depending on what intensity level you’re using. It offers levels ranging from 1,700 to 3,500 beats per minute and has built-in 2500mAh lithium batteries that can outrun even the fastest athletes using it. Endurance is key, baby. Otherwise, this massage gun is pretty standard with four massage gun heads and the small, compact size you’re expecting.
Great Pick For: Those who already know they’re going to forget to charge it between uses.
9. Medcursor Portable Mini Massage Gun
This mini massage gun is super lightweight — at 0.99 pounds total, but it doesn’t sacrifice much power in the process. The motor is pretty quiet, at 35 to 45dB, depending on the intensity level. The RPMs don’t go up as high as the best mini massage guns do, as they max out at the third intensity level of 2,800. But, the battery life can last for up to 10 hours, which is longer than most. The gun also has a similar feature to the Nekteck one with a 10-minute self-timer that’ll prevent you from overusing it, and extend the battery life further.
Great Pick For: Those with arthritis or dexterity issues who can’t clutch heavy objects easily, or those who need an ultra-portable gun that won’t weigh down their suitcase or gym bag.
10. cotsoco 4-Speed Mini Massage Gun
This mini massage gun basically matches the features, size, battery life and gun-head variety of the other picks but is about $20 to $30 cheaper. If you’re not quite sold and don’t want to spend $100 on one, go with this one instead. For a lower price tag, you still get four different speed settings, five to six hours of battery life on a single charge, a super quiet motor and four different massage gun heads. You also get the compact, portable size that you can use for therapeutic relief anywhere.
Great Pick For: Those on a limited budget who are unsure of whether mini massage guns are right for them.
11. Naipo Mini Massage Gun
At just over one pound in weight, the Naipo Mini Massage Gun is 50 percent smaller and 80 percent lighter than its full-sized competitors. This doesn’t mean it’s less powerful, though. In fact, it is more powerful than many alternatives and is also very user-friendly. Just think of what cell phones used to look like compared to smartphones these days. Attached to the ergonomically designed handle is a wrist lanyard to ensure the lightweight design doesn’t fall if you loosen your grip. Plus, it also comes with three attachments for targeting different muscles.
Great Pick For: Anyone known to be a little clumsy from time to time. The wrist lanyard will ensure you take good care of your mini massage gun.
12. CRECJ Mini Massager Gun
BEST FOR BACKS
Although the CRECJ Mini Massage Gun is considerably smaller than full-sized alternatives, it’s designed to ensure you can reach all the most common massage spots, even on your back. Three different attachment heads are included, namely, round for large muscle areas, U-shape for the neck and cylindrical for deep tissue. The minimalist control panel is easy to use and features two sets of indicator lights, three for showing the vibration speed and three for showing the battery level.
Great Pick For: Relieving muscle pain all over your body, including those hard-to-reach knots in your back.
13. GLOUE Mini Massage Gun
For a well-priced, top-quality, compact massage gun, choose the GLOUE Mini Massage Gun. Presented in a branded carrying case large enough for both the gun and the four included attachments, this kit makes a great gift for active friends. At only 35 decibels, it’s very quiet despite its impressive RPM capabilities, which range from 1,800 up to 3,200. Plus, it offers an AI experience mode, which allows you to control the speed of the massage by the strength of your grip.
Great Pick For: Giving as a gift to someone who needs a massage. Why give the gift of one massage at a local salon when you could give the gift of massages for life with a mini massage gun?
14. RENPHO Mini Massage Gun
As we mentioned above, mini massage guns are skyrocketing in popularity, and if there is one massage gun in particular which is matching this trend, it’s the RENPHO Mini Massage Gun. You’ve probably noticed that we included another RENPHO massage gun on our list, but this option is even more mini than their portable gun which has been extremely popular on Amazon for years. Weighing less than one pound, this mini massage gun comes with four accessory heads as well as a carrying case, so it’s easy to store in your gym bag or desk drawer.
Great Pick For: People who want to stay on trend, as this is one of the most popular mini massage guns available right now.
