If you haven’t heard of TikTok by now, consider yourself, in a way, lucky. Once you find out about the video-sharing app, you’ll be stuck. Swallowed. Completely obsessed. You’ll start watching them when you wake up and stay scrolling on the app for so damn long, that by the time you’re finished it’s time to go to bed again.
Though some believe TikTok is solely for the teens, those people are wrong. There is so much wet-your-pants content on the app, and the appeal extends way beyond kids. Some of the videos on TikTok are so specifically niche, generally stupid and uncomfortably funny, you won’t even know why you’re laughing. Though comedy is mainly at the forefront, the app is also home to various creatives, from dancers to botanists to drag queens to farm owners to painters to small business owners and activists.
How to Begin Using TikTok
Using TikTok is plain and simple. Just scroll, like and if you REALLY like, then comment. The algorithm starts to change based on which videos you interact with most, meaning if all you’re doing is spending time liking puppy videos, you’ll get tons of puppy videos on your #ForYouPage, which is your main feed. If you like to watch people cook, you’ll see cooking-related videos. If you like some good ‘ole unhinged comedy, TikTok will take that into consideration and give you some unhinged comedy.
If you’re using TikTok to *hopefully* become the next big social media star, you’re going to need to follow, comment, like and more. Stay active so TikTok can register that you’re active. Consider following some of your favorite celebrities on TikTok and maybe even pick up one of those tiny microphones for storytimes.
