* First solo outing for One Direction member
This is shaping up to be a big week for Harry Styles. The One Direction member and certified global superstar finally releases his long-anticipated debut album Friday, and now comes news that Apple Music will be unveiling a documentary on the singer just three days later.
Styles, whose first single, “Sign of the Times,” rocketed to #1 on the iTunes chart upon release, and whose world tour sold out in two minutes flat, had previously been profiled as part of One Direction’s feature film, This is Us. But like his upcoming album, this is the first time he’s branched out on his own as a solo act.
Apple Music says the documentary, called Harry Styles: Behind the Album, will follow Styles as he writes and records his album in Jamaica and rehearses with his new band at the legendary Abbey Road studio in London. It will also give fans a glimpse into the inspiration behind his new project and feature Styles performing some of the tracks for the first time.
This marks Apple Music’s fourth documentary exclusive. They recently acquired the rights to Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives, at the Tribeca Film Festival last month, and they famously aired Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour documentary in 2015. The Harry Styles doc is just the latest in Apple Music’s efforts to boost its original programming and video offerings on its website and app.
As for Styles’ music, his self-titled album will be released on Friday and — no surprises here — is expected to debut at #1.
