HBO Max Has Been Officially Released — Here’s Why You Should Get a Subscription

WarnerMedia has officially released its long-awaited streaming service HBO Max, which is designed to compete with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney Plus. The new streaming platform became available for new subscriptions late last month, and is definitely worth considering adding to your streaming collection.

Why? Well for one HBO Max has classic television phenomena like The Sopranos and Westworld available to stream. It also has every episode of The Big Bang Theory, Rick and Morty, Doctor Who (the new iteration) and the complete South Park library. Friends fan? They’ve got you covered there as well. The entire series is available on HBO Max, as well as Sex and the City.

The streaming service costs $14.99 a month. This is on the steeper end of streaming services, but HBO’s content has always been marketed as a premium TV offering. In comparison, Disney Plus is $6.99 a month and Netflix’s middle-tier plan goes for $12.99 per month.

HBO Max is another streaming service tied to HBO whose products already includes HBO Now and HBO Go. What’s the difference? HBO Max is essentially replacing HBO Now as the network’s direct-to-consumer streaming service. If you have an existing HBO Now subscription, you’ll be able to cross over easily. Your HBO Go subscription will continue to be tied to your cable subscription.

You can stream HBO Max on the majority of phones, tablets, smart TVs and gaming consoles. A bunch of Hollywood creators have already agreed to make shows and movies for HBO Max including Anna Kendrick, Mindy Kaling and Denis Villeneuve, who’s creating a television spin-off of the Dune film for the network.

In terms of the list of television shows that will already be available via your HBO Max subscription when you join? There’s a lot to be excited about. Yes, you can continue to watch all of your HBO favorites such as Game of Thrones, Westworld, Veep, The Wire, and The Sopranos. However, HBO Max will also bring hundreds of beloved TV shows to your living room, from Adventure Time to The West Wing (check out the full list here).

Some of the most notable ones include:

These are just a taste of what this new streaming platform intends to offer, and we’re so excited about the access to both classics and brand new content.
